it is always inspiring to read about the underdog working hard to overcome limitations. then this guy gets shot in the back by something even worse than not being tall enough, fast enough, etc. and is able to use his work ethic and drive to overcome yet again.

two things though: (1) if TN had won the national championship, i guarantee they would be making a movie about this. (2) it makes me want to slap the **** out of the guys who take for granted their size and talent and end up being lazy peices of crap.

That is a great story but one question should be asked....

If he failed a drug test, how did he play in the next game?
When Tennessee officials learned of Lofton's positive drug test the day of the Ohio State game, they were in utter shock. They decided not to tell Lofton or Pearl. At that point, they were trying to discern whether Lofton might have unknowingly consumed something in a protein shake or other supplement that would have contained a banned substance on the NCAA's list.

What was found on the test were high levels of beta hCG, which is found in women during pregnancy. It can signify steroid use, and it is also a marker for cancer.

yeah, i wondered that too. why wouldnt the NCAA have forced him to sit out?
there was a line in the article that said the UT people were convinced it was something besides drugs...as if them being convinced is good enough for the NCAA to let him play???

I heard this morning that he would have been suspended for the next game if UT had won. I guess the NCAA requires some sort of advance notice to the team or retesting before issuing a suspension.

you have to fail two to be suspended in case there is a false positive.

In that case DS, as soon as they learn about the first failure they should test him again.

There is no second test. They take two samples at the first test and test one of them. If that sample fails, they then test the second sample. If both samples fail, the player fails the drug test. In this case, it appears that the first sample came back positive and they didn't have time to test the second sample before UT's next game.

makes you wonder why this is even on the banned substances list. The only reason I can think of is for athletes who somehow get a woman to pee in a cup for them, and it comes back pregnant.
