Veasey asked some good questions.

I like that Byrne still refuses to address polk directly. Very, very wise.

Also, does anyone else find interesting Byrne's use of AD "language" like "win the press conference?" I'm not real sure what to make of that. Who is the opponent?

to make a hire that has a splash with the fanbase before the guy ever even coaches. The Cohen/Brooks dichotomy was a good example. No one was impressed with hiring Rich Brooks but the guy is doing a good job up there.

coming from past jobs (Brooks from OSU to KY; Cohen from KY to MSU; Casey, OSU, 1st interview for MSU Baseball) of his mean we will always be tied to his prior employers or possibly his dad's employees?

and the most important and impressive quote of the transcript..

"We need people who are at Mississippi State who can find reasons why we can do something, not why we can't. "

WHEW, what a fresh breath of air and change in thought!!!!

is Cohen. The others you named were hired by someone other than Byrne, but who Byrne was influential in courting. Not sure about the tenor of your post, but it reads like the post of someone who is interested in casting doubt on Byrne's ability. This may be unfair, but it's what I'm sensing.

Right now the evaluation of Byrne should stop at Cohen (as far as coaching hires).

the answer is no.

But if all Byrne's hires have the proven backgrounds of those guys you mentioned then I don't care if they all went to the same preschool with Byrne.

One of the things that impressed me about John Cohen was when he was talking about the 11.7 scholarships, but he was also talking about other ways that he could create scholarships through kids who qualify through academic aid. Paying attention to the entities that are out there for awarding kids scholarships, all within the rules, all within the framework of the university, but making sure we're paying attention to every opportunity that's out there, not looking at it as a disadvantage.
It'll be nice having a baseball coach that does not focus his efforts on bitching to the NCAA.

How will he fill up the time in his interviews if he only talks about baseball? Seriously it is going to to be a refreshing change of pace. I'm ready to get the '09 baseball season underway.

intended other than what was written. I personally like the new AD. Only time will tell if he is successful and I am for giving him ample time. It was just a thought about his involvement in hirings. Although Brooks had strong OSU ties, I was in error, as someone pointed out, about him coming form OSU. Maybe it was just coincidence with Casey and Cohen.
