The most encouraging thing to me about this is that we now have hard evidence that Byrne is actually conducting a national search and that he isn't afraid to contact anyone.

Course I would take Cohen, O'Connor, Maneiri (sp?), Gilmore, Fox, & maybe Kinnison (not to mention several more).

which is two more than we have ever won. I just think that would be a hasty hire as far as building our program to a level that we know can be achieved. I really dont know who the best coach would be I just hope we havent got our eyes so fixed on one coach that we overlook the possibilities of any one else!

are completely negated by the fact that he's won two national championships in a row. There aren't many guys that can say that. From what I remember, they play a Miami style of baseball, i.e. good average hitters who are very aggressive on the basepaths with excellent pitching. That suits our "big" ballpark perfectly.

is that every coach that we could potentially hire is going to have question marks in some form or fashion.

As I've said all along, we just have to hope that Byrne makes the best choice with the least amount of risk. I will say this for Byrne, no matter who we hire- he has been a part of two baseball coach searches, and both times, the school made a great choice in Pat Casey and John Cohen. And interestingly, Byrne's picks have two more NC's than Polk's choices so far.

Raffo is only a candidate out of consideration to Polk. Good to see this going on. Its the way it is supposed to be

very impressive by Byrne. As I said on here a few weeks ago, there is no reason for MSU not to contact anybody and everybody in the college baseball world. Cohen would be a great hire but MSU is in a position in baseball where he shouldn't be the only person contacted. If he is contacting the Pat Casey's of the world, I think whoever he ends up hiring, MSU fans will be very pleased. It must be nice to have a real AD.

it would be better if Casey comes out and flat out denies any interest, treats media questioners like they are lower than snake testicles for even asking, lies constantly about staying put right where he is, etc. etc.

That's how you end up with a Saban hire.

then don't get too concerned. He'll be gone in 2-3 years. And state will bring back a hairlipped accountant.

I'm glad that we don't have a committee. That kind of takes the cigar boys and others with agendas other than what's best for MSU out of the equation.

"contacted" and "offered the job" are two different animals. But you very well could be right. We'll see

The fact that the Swan names 15 coaches, FIFTEEN now, and he wasn't even on the list. This is setting up for yet another wrong Swan Song for the mulleted one. If Casey is coach, I guess we could have seen it coming right when Gene proclaimed the top 15 and he wasn't there.
