at Kentucky has been. They had 8 losing seasons from 1995-2004, yet now have an SEC title and compete nationally every year. Thats truly amazing.

It's truly amazing when you step back and look at Kentucky baseball before Cohen and look at it now. It is extremely frustrating to know that the one sport that MSU should be able to WIN SEC championships in is now 16-23 and 4-14. Pathetic!! Hiring Cohen will bring me back to Dudy Noble every SEC home series. Anyone other than Cohen will honestly be a disappointment for me.

Anybody other than Cohen would be a disappointment to you? Really? As an OM fan I would consider Cohen a very solid hire for MSU and give it a B+. He has a ton of potential and has done alot in a short period of time at UK but I would still consider him a 2nd tier coach, just like I consider Bianco and any other coach who hasn't consistently produced a national caliber program and been to Omaha. It would be a very good hire but if I was the MSU AD I would at least contact a few of the top proven coaches in the country before I just threw Cohen the keys. A guy with Cohen's resume and MSU connections would be a slam dunk hire in any other sport for MSU besides baseball. In baseball I think MSU should start at the very top and if there is no interest hire Cohen if he is interested and call it a good day.

You're saying that if we were to hire, say, Jim Morris (2 nat'l championships, 10 CWS appearances), you'd be disappointed that we didn't hire someone who's been to 1 NCAA regional? For that matter, Rick Jones has a lot more post-season success than Cohen. Cohen is a very good coach, he's an alum, and he would be a huge improvement over the debacle we have going on now. But he's not the Knute Rockne of baseball.

That's like asking if OM has been to Omaha. The answer is no, but Cohen and Kentucky has done something that neither Saint Polk or the Almighty Bianco have done, and that is win the SEC title.

I like the fact he is successful AND an MSU guy. Is he the most accomplished out there? No, but he could very well be the best. He is coaching at the football version of Vanderbilt for baseball and doing an outstanding job.

Could we hire a better coach? Yes, there are some out there. Could we hire a better fit for MSU? Probably not. And making that fit is important. Ask Maneiri at LSU. He is a very good coach, but still struggling to get LSU back to prominence.

A streak about to end? This is only my opinion. I definitely don't give a 17 what rebel fans have to say about baseball. You just discovered that baseball was a sport this decade, and yes John Cohen will win big at MSU if hired. Mark it and get back to me in 2 to 3 years.

I want the best young coach in the nation and that happens to be John Cohen. Look at what he has done at UK. Does anyone realize how terrible UK has always been in baseball? Fact is that we are not going to get a Jim Morris. The job Cohen has done at UK speaks for itself. MSU can and should compete with anyone in nation. Try recruiting at UK against the rest of the SEC. I want us to take it to the next level. Cohen knows that his best chance to compete for a national title on a consistent basis is at MSU. It's a great fit for MSU and Cohen.

And what's the difference in say Jim Morris and John Cohen? Cohen is hungry and that's what I want. Everyone has an opinion. This just happens to be mine.

True, we're not going to get Morris. But he's still a better coach. I'm not sure why you think he's not hungry. If hungry means you've never won or even been to a CWS, then he's not hungry, and I don't want someone who's hungry. I don't want young just so we can say we hired a young coach. I want a proven winner. There are some coaches in their 40's who have much better credentials than Cohen. He's been to 1 regional. We can do better.

that scares me about cohen, is his lack of post-season success. i mean it could be due to the lack of overall talent that he has there or it could be his coaching? who knows? all i know, is that with all the regular season success he's had (yes i realize its been 10x better than ours), he still hasn't done jack in the post-season. not dogging him, just stating facts. also, i realize he would be a lot better than what we've got out there now.

*disclaimer for morons: this is not a shot at cohen, just an opinion on his lack of post-season success

if a football coach takes Vandy to a bowl 2 out of 3 years and wins a SEC Championship but doesn't win a bowl game, would you still want him? I would.

Cohen has also taken Mizzou and NORTHWESTERN STATE to the postseason as well, back when making a Regional was a little bit harder than it is nowadays.
