While driving to work, I noticed they moved in the cranes for construction. I guess the framing should begin in the next few days.

Accountingdawg, I hope your request will materialize so people can see the progress***

If they really wanted to they could have it up for the Auburn game. Pay to put more people on the job, work weekends, somethine to get it up for that Auburn game. I dont understand why that would not be the goal.

Do you think those extra guys and overtime hours are free? Getting it done right and on budget is more important than having it ready to for one particular game.

the exposure you would get on national tv would easily make up for that...you never know that impact something like that would make on some of these committs we have actually signing on the dotted line. it would also put the crowd and team in a frenzy which could only help us win in my opinion the most important game on our schedule

all of which would be more than worth the extra 50k for some manual labor

Leonard has a budget, and i can assure you he doesnt want to be on site long. Longer on site = MUCH more money than some overtime....trust me on this one

They will want to get in and out...if they have all of the materials in they could have it up for auburn, but i seriously doubt they have the materials...

You can't just plug it in and "Presto" you've got a functional HD video board ready to use. It doesn't work that way. It may be up by Auburn, but won't be fully functional until Middle Tenn or UK.

Exactly! Content is a huge factor as well. Just because the board is up by a certain time doesn't necessarily mean you're gonna have a kickass video to display to the fans. I wonder who is actually doing the video? I hope they are spending some money on getting a well produced HD video to display on our HD board. Does anyone know anything about who may be producing the video?

the content should be being worked on right now...you dont need the board to be up to start working on that, you just need some nerd sitting at a computer so that when it is up they can fire it up right away

They got the one here in the burg up for USM's first game. It worked, but had a few kinks. Then they came back and finished it up over the next three weeks. Content, framing and all. I thought it was pretty good. You couldn't tell anything was missing or wrond unless someone on the inside told you where the mistakes were.

We got the damn nerds to produce all the videos and get everything set up before it is even built. We just need people working on it. Its possible to put a house up in a day. It is definitely possible to get the skeleton to this jumbotron put up in 2-3 weeks. And have the technological parts installed soon after if they are ready. Once school starts its goign to put an urge in hurrying it also due to traffic and congestion that might come from it.

It's going to take a lot more then a computer nerd to produce a kick *** video that compliments our new gigantic kick *** HD jumbotron. I am talking about putting together a highly produced video that looks like it was done by more then one person with access to stock video and clip art and a version of adobe premiere from 1997. If you produce a crappy video then a gigantic $6 million HD board is just going to amplify the crappiness and make it look worse. This is my fear.

We do? I am here to tell you that we don't. I hope that we do not do the lion's share of the content in-house. If we do then the new jumbotron is going to be wasted. We don't pay an in-house staff enough money to come up with a video that will use the size and quality of the new board to its full potential. If we do have that staff somewhere and we do pay them enough then prove me wrong and make me look like and idiot, but I just don't see it happening in-house and being phenomenal.

you dont say...

youre right, i dont understand these things at all

Who the hell said it would be up by auburn? I said if they had all the materials in they could have it "operational" by then, but they would have to have everything right now.

You also know Leonard isn't cheap. We'll see if I was told the truth or not by his son in a matter of a week or two. Hopefully he wasn't bullshittin

And where is this extra $50k coming from? Seriously, y'all, 12 months ago a new HD board was a pipe dream, and now we're getting upset because it won't be in place before our first big game??? How about a little perspective. I seriously doubt we'll lose any recruits because our new board is in place in October and not September. I'm amazed this is happening at all.

Where exactly do we cash in out "National Exposure Bucks" anyway? I've never seen an exchange rate for that. Is it 1 for 1 National Exposure Bucks to a dollar or is it more? Sure they would talk about it but thinking kids will go, "Holy ****, look at that video board, I'm gonna play football there!" is as stupid as Ole Miss thinking anyone gives a **** about their IPF.

I'm very happy about getting a new screen just as you seem to be. It's cool. It will make the stadium experience much better. It will make the stadium look better. Both schools have good reason to be happy about their respective upgrades. Having said that, isn't it a little over the top to say a video board is going to whip your fans and team into a frenzy? National TV exposure would make up for extra cost? Not to be an *** or anything, and I do admire your enthusiasm about pixels 'n ****. But damn, man.

signing with a team just because he knows that his old high school jersey number is coming available in the fall. No body would be that stup......wait a second.

Edit to add....I don't think the iron work or video production is the bottleneck. I would have to guess that shipping the worlds 4th largest (or whatever) HD screen involves a little more logistical planning than the average 42 incher from Amazon....What can brown do for you?

they come in a bunch of small modules and you put them together to make one board. They are shipped over in crates, unpackaged and staged somewhere to iron out all the glitches(there will be a shitload of them). I just hope they do a good job. The fan in me is excited we are getting a new board but the business side of me is very very nervous and hope everything turns out ok...we will see

The difference is.... the Rebel's IPF will never have millions of television viewers, watching a Saturday night football game, on national television, between two SEC teams. The exposure to high school football players, fans sitting at home that don't go to games, and potential students, cannot be valued from an actual cash standpoint. Seeing the atmosphere on a Sat night might just encourage future students to attend State, it might encourage couch fans to say "I've got to come to one of those games", and it might encourage freshmen, sophmores, and juniors playing football to just give us a second look.

being trotted out when we got the first video board (we were one of the first then too). They never show it on TV. Sure, they pan by it in pre-game and say, "wow, look at the video board" but after that the cameras watch the field and use graphics for the score and stuff. I'm not saying it won't help the gameday atmosphere, but that wasn't the debate. The debate was is it worth the **** ton of money we would have to pay in overtime to get it for Auburn and the answer is no.
