They play Hawaii at 6:00 CT. If they win they play the Washington/Brown winner at 7:30 tomorrow night.
Hawaii is an interesting team. They won three national championships in volleyball in the 80s and were considered a power until the last decade or so. Think Louisiana Tech in women's basketball. They are actually the lowest rated 3 seed in the tournament with an RPI of 56. They would not have made the tournament without securing the auto-bid from the Big West. On paper, we should mop the floor with them, but I think the girls will be nervous and will have to shake that off.
The second round is the big one. Assuming Washington takes care of Brown, you are going to have to play the Pac 12 champions on their home court and apparently a large hostile crowd. Here is a photo from our practice session.
Washington is the No. 15 seed overall - they are solid but they are beatable and we match up well with them. Washington was in the Final Four last year and lost to Kentucky, who went on to beat Texas to win the national championship. An interesting twist to this bracket is that Kentucky, Texas and Washington - three Final Four teams from last year - are all in the same region and slated to play each other in the Sweet 16/Elite 8 rounds. Hopefully we can throw a wrench in that and join Kentucky in Austin next weekend.
