Volleydawgs just missed first ever ranking - come in at No. 26.

Some highlights:

They have a better record than and beat No. 20 Florida on the road.
Western Kentucky is 24-1, but their schedule is garbage. Their one loss was to Ole Miss, who is 7th in the SEC.
Only five teams have more wins than State, and they are ranked 1, 3, 4, 18 and 21.
Seven ranked teams have more losses than State, the highest ranked 9. An additional five have the same number of losses, the highest is ranked 6.
4 teams ranked 19-25 are coming off of losses. State has won 11 in a row.

RPI- wise, the top conferences are

1. Big 12 - 2 ranked teams
2. ACC - 3 ranked teams
3. Big 10 - 7 ranked teams
4. SEC - 2 ranked teams
5. Pac 12 - 6 ranked teams
6. Big East - 1 ranked team

9. West Coast - 3 ranked teams
10. Conference USA - 1 ranked team


There is a heavy Big 10/West Coast bias in Volleyball rankings.

At this point, there is no rational reason left to not rank us.

It's really just a case of whatever the opposite of name recognition is. We have been so bad for so long, that we can't possibly have a good team this year, no matter our record.

Looking at RPI our road record is 5-4 while some with better RPIs have better. We have 2 games this week against Arkansas on the road. Winning those would go a long way to improving our RPI and chances of being ranked. At least SC beat UK so that will help us gain on them one game.

If you want the team to make it to the NCAA tournament you better hope they are ranked b/c they could be on the outside looking in.

I’m sure this will somehow be spun negatively, but I think you should absolutely be ranked in the Top 20.

I know they only look at records, but there’s no way they could pick 20 teams that they’d think would beat MSU straight up, and/or that have a better resume. If it weren’t for the craziness versus Memphis you’d be Top 15, and then if you add a kicker against Arkansas you’d be top 10.

We haven’t played Memphis or Arkansas yet,, and while kicking is actually allowed in volleyball it’s probably not a great strategy.
