I thought Dan was going to give the Jelly of the Month Club for Christmas.

I think Florida is a good fit for him based on what I have heard about the situation. It's close to his home in Miami, and I think Meyer wants a co-coordinator position at DC, so it would be smart to have someone with some expereince and at the same time, if the other guy is someone like Heater, he and Martinez could play off of each others strengths/weaknesses.

It also means that Murray was wrong as far as his "done deal".

We'll hire somebody. Dan is doing this the right way. And I'm not talking about Croom's right way either. If we don't have someone by the middle of January, then I would worry. We're a pretty good job- maybe not the top job, but we're not bad.

I would be willing to bet that a lot of these positions aren't filled until after the bowls are done.

Diaz would be next in line.

...I don't play much attention to position coaching hires, but after I took my monthly glance @ genespage & saw where somebody posted all the 4 & 5 star talent UGA had on defense this past year, I knew Martinez would be Ron Cooper revisited.

And while I don't think he would have been a disaster, I am glad that he's going elsewhere.

But I could also see why he would prefer to go to Florida, to.

His best shot at being a DC again might be to wait a year or two, and if the next guy at UGA does worse or if the situation with Richt worsens up there, he could say, "See it wasn't me."

He also may be a Co-DC at UF or possibly even be the DC in a few years if he is patient.

But I do agree- I don't think Dan offered him the job, and I think he is going to interview several guys before he does offer it.

This is a new way of doing things at MSU, and Gene and his band are having a hard time adjusting. If I remember correctly, Murray thought it was Martinez because everyone Dan brought in for an interview was hired last year. But a lot of that was because we had a ton of positions open.
