He looks confused and lost. I think he is out of touch with reality. The two games prior to today was a wake up call that he and the entire coaching staff missed.

"We are undersized. Everyone thinks they are Aaron Donald. We need to work on recruiting, fundamentals, footwork..everything"

-This is our coach folks. Years of same approach, weeks to prepare for this game and metrics, metrics ,metrics..yet bad result after bad result. He could only come to conclusion that his staff is a failure after a$$-beating. BDE before the game of course. I guess we should thank Harbaugh for providing this insight to our dear leader

Doesn’t he recruit the guys. He is in charge of the program. Does he allow the players to tell him what position and at what weight they will play at? My god who runs the program.

I usually watch his press conferences but I need to step back. Half the reason his teams struggle is because there's no "metric" (on his radar at least) for deficiencies in tackling and blocking. As they say, "you can't fix what you can't measure". Season after season there's yards after contact on key downs because of shoulder tackles and failure to wrap up. Maybe Dan Connor can show them.

I hate to say this but I simply don’t care anymore. I still watch out of habit but I am not kidding myself anymore that they will beat teams of equal or better talent. The play soft and undisciplined and their coach is horrible with making adjustments. I cheer for the kids who put so much time and effort into this but this staff does less with more than any program.

I counted 7 "obviouslies" How "bout tackling. What would Jack Ham, Shane Conlin, Paul Posluszny, Mike Mauti say?
They'd say "we played a lifetime ago and have massive CTE ... ignore us."

Hah, sorry James was late because he was waiting for the stats. What a douche. Here is a "stat" - 0-10 against top 10 teams since 2016.

Holy sh*t you weren't kidding about being late because of 'stats'. Jesus.

He's 3-4 (at Penn State). Wins over OSU, Michigan, and Maryland. Losses to OSU, MSU, Illinois, and Michigan. Two years there was no bye week.

After announcing his retirement as an active player on February 17, 1983,[10] Ham began a career as a radio personality. He served as a color commentator for national radio broadcasts of NFL games, and later hosted a show in Pittsburgh with Mark Madden on ESPN Radio 1250 during the NFL season. Ham is currently a sports analyst for Penn State Radio Network and also appears as an analyst on the Westwood One radio network.[5]

Ham is a minority owner of the North American Hockey League's Johnstown Tomahawks. On January 31, 2013, Ham was honored by the Tomahawks' organization with a bobblehead giveaway to the first 1,000 fans that entered the Cambria County War Memorial Arena for the Tomahawks' game against the Port Huron Fighting Falcons.[11]

Since Conlan's retirement from the NFL, he has worked for Esmark Inc. as the company's Vice President of Commercial Real Estate. In 2013, he was named the Pittsburgh Power's Vice President of Corporate Partnerships.[4]

He actually said that stuff? I read it as being critical of his players. I remember when Joe was asked about Tamba Hali’s size when he was forced to play Tamba at nose tackle rather than end. Joe said Tamba was big enough. I remember a reporter said something bad about the Ok St QB, and the coach went on the “he’s a kid, I’m a man, pick on me” rant that the media couldn’t stop playing. Franklin is paid huge bucks and the buck stops with him but he won’t take the blame. Franklin‘s players have talent. The players change but the issues continue. The mess is all Franklin’s doing.

This is his arrogance I have been commenting on….that and a bit of narcissism, in not admitting his faults or his coaches.

Oh an Analytics…lol fancy word all that is to create the illusion that he is sophisticated.

He gamed the system good for him….reminds of a community organizer…hmmmm

Everybody is making out Michigan's lines to be super or something and yes, they're good. But go back and watch their games against Maryland, Iowa and Indiana and those teams did well against Michigan in the trenches. Indiana and Iowa gave up somewhere around 160 to 170 yards rushing to Michigan and Maryland gave up over 200. But 400 yards plus? GTFO

Wow, you really have become the board idiot. Tackling fundamentals, which ANYONE can do if properly taught, are not old fashioned and do not lead to CTE — though it can be caused by launching yourself at an opponent as if you were an armless missile. All PSU football players (and coaches, apparently) should watch hours of Jack Ham tackling videos.

The quote you highlight is the kind of thing you say on your 1st Day as a new coach. You are spot on with the "metrics, metrics, metrics".
He should be in the room upstairs during the game feeding his 'metrics' to the Head Coach. It's been my complaint about him for a long time now...he is not a game day coach. Needs the metrics to be able to decide how to adjust.

He’s a disaster. And we are stuck with him. I won’t be scheduling my Saturdays around this team. If I catch part of the game, fine. If not, that’s OK too. They are Purdue, Iowa etc. they are content with not competing at the highest level apparently.

In all fairness, Neeli and Kraft are new and inherited Franklin’s contract. It isn’t fair to say what they, as the new leadership, are or are not content with. I’m sure they were not happy with Saturday’s result. The open question is what the ascribe it to.

We had a near identical rush defense performance last year vs Illinois. The only difference was Illinois couldn't score and needed overtime to beat us.

We knew our LBs were weak this year. As Michigan showed us in '16, they will destroy us without LBs. It's a deficiency that can't be masked.

I'd like to see some kind of adjustment in games like this. I watched the Eagles play with 5 DL last night vs Dallas to counter their running game. We have 3 corners who have run with every WR they've seen this year and yet we did nothing to force Michigan to beat them in 1v1s.

Agree. Some creative adjustments would have helped. These are the players Franklin recruited and wants. They have talent and potential. There have to be creative ways to use them effectively. The PSU defensive line played well against Auburn, and Auburn has big SEC sized offensive linemen. Also, the PSU offensive line played well against Auburn's big SEC defensive line. Regarding creative adjustments, didn't Illinois line up with extra offensive linemen against us last year? Bielma got creative to give his team the best chance to win. You play with the team you have, not the team you wish you had. I think its counterproductive to say your handpicked team is undersized in post-game remarks.

You know, you're right, but what I can't make sense of is why commit that kind of money to a coach, to super expensive coordinators, promise big expenditures to upgrade facilities etc. if you are just going to be apathetic. I just don't understand why you would do half measures. Be a f*king 5 win team and save the money on bloated salaries, stadium redesigns, and so on, fine. But if you decide to "play ball" and spend all this money trying to keep up with the other programs "365 days a year" then don't accept mediocrity. Its like the sports franchises that are making money, but they don't win and their owners have no interest. The pirates or the clippers of old...the second they develop a good player, they just trade his ***. Winning isn't important, they just want to keep the money flowing and the expenses down. If you commit to this stuff and you commit to winning, you just can't tolerate that performance last week. You can't accept the 0-5 start(you don't excuse it for covid), you don't accept the end to last year. You don't accept your coach negotiating through the media about his future while concurrently getting blown out on homecoming by a 20 point Illinois underdog. At some point, if this school is committed to being an elite program, and look they are spending like one, then someone has to start to make Franklin a little uncomfortable. I know he has the school by the balls because of the profligate raise and extension Sandy gave him after a 7-6 season, but you can make him uncomfortable. No more blaming undersized players, bad cultures, covid, we have given you everything you have wanted, we need results, even lacking the leverage to do it, it has to be said. They drop this Minnesota game I assure you the fans will start sending the message by not putting their asses in the seats.
