Had we won the KY game I would feel totally different about this season. Although the loss to LSU doesn't look bad now we should have won that game too. I should be happy with 8-4 but, for me, those two games (esp the KY game) make this a very frustrating season. Looking back on the season A&M, Auburn were not good & Ark we caught at a good time, we had a great chance and could and likely should be 10-2.
Question: how do you think Mullen would have done with this schedule?

Arkansas is terrible. I think they lose to Missouri and go 6-6. Also if we play the caught them at the right time game then Cincinnati would beat the hogs if that game is played again.

Who gives a 17 what Mullen would’ve done? He’s not our coach anymore.
How would Allyn Mckeen have done?

8-4. He would’ve lost the egg but beat Kentucky. He never won an egg bowl when we had 8 wins. He would’ve been job shopping hard when we were 8-3 to make sure we got that 4th loss.

Better yet how would Bear Bryant have done if he was alive and somehow was our coach? What about Nick Saban if we hired him away? Maybe we could get Napoleon to lead our troops into battle. What would his record have been?

It's fine to be happy with 8-4 and still see we left more on the field. It's kind of a State expectation really. 8 wins still trumps the negatives. We've looked good and bad. But wins are wins.

Good grief!

UK... We were without Crumedy. Marks was already injured and it was worsened in that game causing him to tap out. DJ sustained an injury in the game and STILL had the balls to try and play. He missed the next game and was limited the following We lost our starting center in that game!

Bless your heart!

Leach has beaten 7 ranked teams in 36 games. Mullen did it in 106! There is your ANSWER!

This season is far from frustrating. This is the best I’ve felt going into the off-season since 2016.

OM was ranked and it was on the road. So, Mullen would’ve lost. Mullen really only beat OM teams that were dumpster fires, except for 2009.

ETA: How can you be frustrated about a season in which we won 8 games when three of our losses were against top 10 teams, two on the road. And we beat a top-20 Ole Miss team on the road. If that frustrates you, maybe supporting MSU is not for you.

I am sad that we lost to Kentucky and LSU, but this has been a successful season by MSU standards, and it was better than last year's record, which was better than 2020's record. We are trending the right way.

8 win seasons don't happen enough around here to be upset when they do occur.

I am one of those fans who puts a premium on winning the last game of the season and beating Ole Miss. Even if we won 11 games and lost to OM at the end it would truly suck. Maybe if we still got into the playoffs and they didn't, I'd be okay.... but it would still suck.
If we have a winning season and beat Ole Miss, it's good.

I told my wife last night after we watched the game and we were talking about the season that somebody would be on here first thing this morning saying that they would find some issue with going eight and four on the schedule we have had to play. The Internet has made every football fan, happiest when he is unhappy, I swear to God.

Mullen would’ve won 9. He gets either Kentucky or LSU. Doesn’t get both. Doesn’t mean a thing though. He’s on tv now. I have completely made a 180 on Leach after last night not just because of the win but him adjusting and going with what worked to get the win. He realized how important this game was for the program and him and did what he needed to do for a victory. Leach is our guy. Frustrating to watch or not. He’s our guy.

I've been one the most critical of that game but going on the road last night in crappy weather and winning last night to get to 8 wins made up for that. Yes we could have had 9 but I'll take 8 any year with finishing 3rd in the west. That's pretty dang good.

hard to compare with Mullen now because none of his players are around any more.
