We have nil deal with Dr Pepper. They use our jerseys, helmets, and apparel for all their commercials. Jokes on us. Even the paid actors resemble our players, but we just don’t have people who smart enough to figure out how to get the nil money from it.

I was fortunate enough to run into him one time in a one to one situation in public. Unfortunately it was immediately after the 1997 Egg bowl. He was walking towards the Hump as was I.

I say.... "Hi Mr Cristil, how are you?"

Jack sharply says: "I've been better!"

He doesn't look up at me, doesn't break stride. Classic Jack Cristil.

The best Jack Cristil was Jack in “totally over this BS” mode.

I met him at the 2011 Egg Bowl, which would’ve been the first EB he didn’t call in over 50 years, and maybe the last one he ever saw, not sure if he was there in 2012 or 2013 before he passed away in September’14. Was just a brief hello and greeting but I’ll never forget it. He was a legend.

I met Jack twice where we’d talk briefly at Digestive Health Specialist in Tupelo which is where he lives as everyone knows. He was pushing a family member of his. Sister I think. Either way yes he’s absolutely a legend and I miss listening to him say things like “and he’ll go unmolested into the endzone” “wrap this one in maroon and white” all while smoking a damn carton of cigs where it said no smoking in the booth lmao. He gave not many Fcks or rather was gonna do things how he wanted till the end. Damn legend right there a national treasure. There uses to be an old funny video on you tube of people interviewing inside his home as he was quite gracious. Was best friends with Yellum Kellum too. We absolutely need a big *** statue.

Is he in ring of honor on stadium? He should be if not. Can’t believe Jackie’s name didn’t get put up there at Kentucky game. It was perfect opportunity.

Why don't we have some type of attraction honoring him in the junction?

I'm a second generation alum as is the old lady, we've never heard (or don't remember), this cheer:

"there's a hole in Oxford and it's called Ole Miss, GTHOM, GTHOM."

Also how do we not have a NIL deal with Sonics

I met Dr. Jack at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame at “An Evening with Jack Cristil.” A friend of mine was a friend of his daughter and she introduced me to the legend. He, with his one free hand (the other was occupied with a whiskey glass), shook my hand and said, “glad to know ya!”

Then, we got the most Jesus-y invocation from a guy that thanked Jesus for this time of year (it was December), thanked God for sending his Son Jesus, and ended his Jesus-y prayer by thanking Jesus once again….at “An Evening with Jack Cristil” emceed by Michael Rubinstein.

I got to sit in the booth with him for the first half of a basketball game. This was 1986, so Bob Boyd's last season. I interviewed him before the game and at halftime.

He had his own little booth at the Hump, rather than sit at the scorers table. I guess his booth was considered part of the concourse, because he chain smoked the whole time. (Yes, kids, we used to allow smoking indoors, but by the 80s there often designated indoor smoking areas).

Jack was really nice to this young, once-aspiring journalist. I didn't so much interview him as listen to him while he told me what I needed to know.

I asked him why he stayed neutral rather than being a homer like so many college radio guys. He said, "The only reason people listen to me is because they can't be at the game themselves [not true, but a practical way of thinking back then]. So, I owe them an honest description of the game without adding any of my own feelings. They know when to get excited and when to worry."

The man deserves a bronze statue, if for nothing else all the **** he had to endure during his 58 year tenure as "voice of the bulldogs". Man, he saw a lot of ****** teams.

I remember listening to the Memphis St win so well. That game and the Bama win had to be two of his most exciting games to cover. The AL win I was there so I didn't hear him announce the game live but have heard his call at the end many times. He was one of the best.....no doubt.
