To be fair, SMU’s alumni base has enough money to keep their entire athletic department afloat for almost a decade while it takes in zero media dollars. We’re never going to beat them out when it comes to NIL and not many schools will.

That’s not a defense of our NIL situation. It’s just an acknowledgement of the current reality of college sports.

No doubt about SMU's wealth, but this kid is the 209th ranked portal kid from this class, so it's not exactly like SMU broke the bank to beat us our for a blue chipper.

If we cannot find a way to win battles for transfers that are not even in the top 200 nationally, we're going to have a very difficult time and our NIL is nowhere close to fine
