Why do we not let him run kicks back from a few yards deep in the end zone?

Tulu is our most electric playmaker, the only real home run threat we have. The coaches know that. Even Barbay said this summer that Tulu needs touches, and our offense has to get the ball to Tulu in space. And Tulu is EXCEPTIONAL at returning kickoffs. Just last year, he led the COUNTRY by averaging 32 yards per return, almost 2 yards more than anyone else. 2022 Stats.

Yet in spite of all that, our coaches obviously instruct Tulu to not retreat into the end zone to return any kickoff. He stands on the goalline, and if the kick goes over his head, we take the touchback . We are handcuffing Tulu and forgoing the chance of a TD or a big return to set up the offense (which needs all the help that it can get) in exchange for a guaranteed start at the 25.

Case in point - last Saturday vs. LSU. LSU FG early in the 3rd made the lead 27-7. The offense has sucked and needs a spark. But the kickoff goes 2 yards deep for a touchback, and Tulu never backs into the end zone. After LSU's next score made it 34-7, the kickoff dies at the 2, so Tulu gets a return. And he PROMPTLY scampers out to the 37 yard line before being pushed out of bounds. And on their final kickoff, LSU pooch kicked to keep it away from Tulu...

Tulu needs to be running back kicks that only go a few yards deep in the end zone. Someone please make it happen. #FREETULU

Tulu and/or Zavion needs to touch the ball every series. How is that so hard for the coaches to get. I don't care if they can't catch the ball, if we have to hand it off or pass it to someone who then pitches it to them, get the ball to them.

Don't forget Creed Whittemore. 2 electric TD's the first game and zero touches since.

Agreed. Look at Cordarrelle Patterson - if he can catch a kick, he's going to return it. Tulu should be used the same way. If he can catch it, he needs to return it. You can't return it 109 yards if you don't bring it out.

Tulu, Zavion, Creed, Wright, and Bellazar are all home run threats.

Put Tulu and Zavion in the endzone and force them to kick it out of bounds, out of endzone, or squib. Should lead to beffer field position. Unfortunately that doesn't help us as much as it should.

Amazing that we pay these folks all this money to be this dumb. It's like stealing. My thought is Arnett is just unbelievably old school and conservative, with zero innovation. A big 'that is how we have always done it in the old days rabble rabble' type.

180 degrees from what I thought when we hired him. Amazing how that works. Croom was the same way. Good on the microphone too.

I hear than Creed will be wearing XXL extension gloves that extend his reach an extra 3 feet left and right. That should help on the throws heading for the dirt. This is just a rumor, but I hear that the OL helmets will be installed with a heads up display that shows the direction and path that the lineman should be running. Technology, ain't it great.

Will's fault! ***
Will must be telling him to not under any circumstance return any kicks that cross the goal line by an inch.
Remember when we were tied at the end of Arizona, and they have to kick to Tulu. We actively decided to not let him catch it 6 yards deep and give it a shot. Instead we kneeled out and played overtime. Kneeling out was the better option than trying to outright win the game in regulation? No 17n way that should ever happen.

When you have Tulu you bring it out every single time. There is always a good chance of him breaking loose. If he gets tackled on the 20 yes you lost five yards since you did not down it but I kind of figure if you can drive 75 yards then it stands to reason you can drive 80 yards. It's only five yards. If you as a coach is willing to go for it when its 4th and goal on the 4-yard line, why not gamble every time they kick off. I think Tulu will get past the 25 every time.

If you are worried about Tulu getting hurt, then put the fast white boy back there and say "Run Forrest Run"
