We just have to earn our way

It's readily apparent that Alabama got their ranking in the CFP for one reason and reason only: they are Alabama. Nothing about them this year warrants favorable treatment by the committee, but this marks 2 years in a row that they have been absolutely gifted spots in the CFP. If Bama is anywhere in the vicinity of the playoffs, the committee has shown they will bend over backwards to do what it is necessary to get them in. It's also readily apparent, and the indications were there several weeks ago, that the committee had made up their minds about us and there was nothing we could do to get in.

What it simply boils down to is that we haven't earned anyone's respect. This isn't an argument that we should have made the playoffs. However, in the latest CFP, Alabama jumped 2 spots for beating a terrible Auburn team at home (comfortable win, but not a blowout). We, on the other hand, moved up 1 spot after beating the #12 team on the road. That simply doesn't make sense, apart from the fact that we just haven't earned respect.

Shane and Co. need to take this as a challenge and have a real chip on our shoulders. No, don't blow it up into a glorified tantrum like FSU did. Rather, nod your head, say "alright then" and get to work. I wouldn't make it an issue of setting out to prove anyone wrong. Rather take it as a challenge that we have to go out and earn the respect. The mantra next year needs to be "leave no doubt". I loved Sellers response after the pick against Clemson. He came back into the game a man on fire and simply refused to lose. The whole team needs to adopt that mentality for next year.
