we might as well give one to a holder.

I'm sure this is a popular commitment on GP since they are all the time saying our QB "is the next Brett Favre".

biggest difference is we aren't going to forced to start Favre, and I doubt that Mullen will needlessly start a QB debate between Russell and Favre.

for ESPN & slams Mullen every chance he gets for putting little Favre on the bench & never sees the field. He'll probably transfer to USM after his soph. year.

for Mullen to say he wants to win with Mississippi kids and then refuse to offer the Mississippi kid that holds every passing record in the state. I would have much rather had Newton but I will try not to hold anything against the kid because of the play of Henig and Lee. I would also like to think Mullen is a better judge of QB talent than Croom. Having said that, I don't expect any miracles, but I do think he can provide depth.

Notes from an article on him:

He threw for 5,589 yards and 63 touchdowns. He rushed for 1,265 yards and 18 touchdowns.

His 81 total touchdowns is a national single-season record. He led the nation in 2009 in touchdown passes, passing yards and touchdown responsibility.

I am glad we offered because most people seem to be REALLY impressed when they see this kid play.

Welcome Favre.....I'm hoping for the best.

He was also offered after Nash, Brunetti, Mason, and Newton all turned Mullen down. MSU has always sucked, that is why the big boys are hesitant to come here. We needed some depth and he wanted to come here. That is the reason he was offered and I'm glad he did.

I know must of you will file this under 'we didn't want him anyway.'

However, I am excited about the prospect of Mullen developing Relf even more, Russell playing next year, and having a guy for 4 years that wants to be here. Newton may very well be awesome at AU. However, I was not excited about his off the field issues at UF and the way he continued to look and look and look some more after we recruited him for so long.

My point is. It is not like we lost Newton and now had to sign our 3rd choice to be the starting QB. We have 2 starting QBs on the roster. We will be just fine without Newton and signing a HS player to develop.

Relf continues to be overlooked and undersold.

I know that Dylan is short but so what. Those guys biggest problem was not their height but their football skills.

He was Mr. Football this year and by all accounts can play the game. Is he a top prospect? No! but he was the best we could get and he may be better than any of you think.

To suggest that he will ride the pine for four or five years is ridiculous. This kid has definite skills and if he were 3 or 4 inches taller would have been one of the most sought after QB's in the land.

Another thing, this isn't like the NFL where you select your QB #1 overall and stunt your franchise for years. State has four QB's on the team and is in better shape at that position than we have been in years! Would a 6'6" 240lb beast at QB been more fun? Yes, but I bet Drew Brees is better.

Favre = short QB who set every passing record in the state
Lee = short QB who was a Juco AA, whatever that's worth
Henig = not quite-as-short QB whose claim to fame was tackling a DB after a pick

are getting a little too worked up. Mullen didn't bring this kid in to be the starter for next year. Hell I'd be surprised if this kid ever takes a meaningful snap at MSU...eVER. The sole reason we signed this kid was because of depth, in my opinion, and every QB we went after (and I mean EVERY) turned us down. Now if Dan were expecting to have this guy as our starter next year, yeah I'd be worried/pissed, but that's not the case. Some may think it's a waste of scholarship, but the bottom line is, we have to sign SOMEONE this class at the position. We already saw what happens when you don't sign one QB for a class (multiple times). Like someone said, Mullen would probably look a little silly talking about winning with Mississippi players and then not offering this kid. ESPECIALLY after everyone else turned us down. Bottom line, this kid's most likely not gonna ever start (and isn't intended to). If we do see this kid on the field next year (or even the next), Dan Mullen will be a failure, in my opinion on his QB management.

We would have been bowling. Henig's biggest problem was the Croom Coast offense.

Henig's biggest problem was his affinity for throwing to the wrong colored jersey.

He seemed to break a bone every other game.

I know I'm exaggerating, but not much.

Can you image how long he'd last trying to run Mullen's offense? At least Tyson is a tough bastard.

is because of Tyler Russell being here for four years. And if we get Mikhail Miller next year, I'm not sold that Favre can beat him out, either.

I agree. How do you not offer Mississippi's Gatorade POY and Mississippi's Mr. Football?
