Just had this text exchange with her. She is a Sr in HS.

- Randomly talks college sports!
- Asks to watch the Egg Bowl!
- Enjoys OM's collapse!
- Apparently listens to a local HS morning radio show on the way to school?...didn't know she knew how to use the radio dial!

Not that I have to tell you this but relish this connection with her. My Dad and I bonded on sports more than anything in life. He's gone now but some of my favorite memories of him involve sports especially Mississippi State events.

My daughter is a "Freshmens" at State this Fall. After showing ZERO interest in football through her high school years, she's now been to every home game this season, travelled to Austin & Knoxville, and is planning to watch the Egg Bowl with me Friday as well. Heck, she even texted me during the first quarter of the UMass game making fun of our WR's for not being able to catch a pass.

It's amazing how quickly they mature... LOL!

Great relationship! as someone well past this point, my advice to all is to treat your kids in a way that fosters long term relationships with them. All the stupid stuff they do growing up rarely rises up to a level that requires you berating them. I have a good relationship with all my grown kids but I would for sure manage my anger/words better if I could do it again...

I’m just impressed that your teenage daughter uses full English and proper grammar (in texts). My 16yo daughter uses things like: IDK, thnx, alr, wym, etc. It takes me five minutes to figure out what one sentence says

that’s awesome, man! My son wants to go to State…. I’ve told him to work on the ACT score to get some financial aid to offset OOS tuition.

I never prodded him one way or another. But I always wear State gear and always watch the games. He’s probably the biggest State fan I know.

My 11 yo son and I enjoyed watching the end of the Florida game together Saturday. He laughed and pointed and cheered along with everyone else, and I got to teach him some football lessons along the way (like how f'ing stupid it was for Sunbelt Billy not to run the clock all the way down on their second-to-last possession.) A good time was had by all.

But then I got to teach him a fairly important life lesson after the game. Right afterwards, he immediately said "I'm going to text ______!" (his grandfather, a huge OM fan) So I had to give him the "Patience, grasshopper" speech. I reminded him of the upcoming game Friday and that we would have to make it through Thanksgiving dinner and the game... I convinced him to wait on rubbing it in with "that way you will either be really glad you didn't text him, or we will have the greatest celebration ever Friday after the game". Just trying to teach him how to survive life in this world as a Bulldog fan.

Daughters are the best. Not a single one of my four could care less about state football (thank god I will not pass on this curse) but they think it is hilarious that I do. Saturdays are a nonstop source of entertainment for them.
