Any hope people still held out for a SEC Tourney bid pretty much ended today. We aren't mathematically eliminated, but with 6 games left we are currently 4 games behind the teams fighting for 8th place.

By the way, LSU has won 6 in a row. Yep, we sure made a good move rehiring Polk over Manieri. If the Tigahs don't run him off I believe he will have them back on track soon.</p>

If LSU runs him off, we need to pick him up and send Skip Bertman some edam cheese as a token of our thanks.

A lot of people don't know how bad Smoke left LSU. Manieri will win there- and probably pretty soon.

i can't imagine how bad it must be for Raffo as we continue to lose game after game. if the writing weren't on the wall before, then it certainly is now.

there is nothing that could happen now that would surprise me. With the way Coach Polk has melted down I wouldn't be surprised to see Dr Phil hovering around the MSU campus.

is because of dementia. He is just saying and doing some bizarre things, even from the NCAA letter to the USM fiasco. Just nuts.

And no, he used to NOT be like this.

at its highest point. As much of a stat guy as Polk is, he knows deep down how much of a failure his return has been. Mix in the NCAA's horrible new rules and the fact that its clear that Raffo isn't getting hired and you get this. I find myself feeling sorry for him lately.

But if your theory is correct, I'd pay $50 for someone to spray paint "ed" at the end of the stadium name.

I remember when he came back, I had expressed my concerns, and people told me "he has the fire back again". Maybe he thought he did, but it's obvious that he really didn't.

Since you mention stats, here's a quick glance at what has happened since Polk returned.

2002- Missed Regionals- Pat McMahon's fault.
2003-Regional host, but a gross mishandling of the pitching staff- most notably Maholm vs. Middle Tennessee and a blown lead in the final left a real bad taste in everyones mouth.
2004- Made Regional, but missed SEC Tournament for the first time since 1986. Still Pat McMahon's fault.
2005- Back doored into SEC Tournament, and by an unexplainable phenomenon win the thing with a team that can't pitch, hit, run, and is only average defensively, punctuated with a Championship game win over arguably the best team in Ole Miss history. Team goes to a Regional, which in itself was remarkable.
2006- Team comes into season on a high note, start off something like 18-1 and end up ranked #1 for a portion of the year. Team then plummets and barely makes a Regional- and only with the help of their AD who screwed over LSU, which ironically hires Paul Manieri, who probably should have originally replaced McMahon to start with.
2007- With fan apathy and pressure mounting, Polk begins to do some things like play small ball and has a quicker hook for pitchers than usual. As a result, team has a "nice" season, but struggles late in the year, primarily because the teams best hitter is hurt. Team goes to a Regional and goes on a "That's baseball" run through the Regionals, and then at the high water mark of Polk II, the team hosts and wins a SR over Clemson to go to Omaha.
2008- With some people jumping back on board, Polk launches a 60 page manifesto against the NCAA, First Pitch Banquet disaster featuring Johnathan Papelbon, and then a disconcerting series loss to North Florida which would begin the teams first losing season since 1975 , followed by an NCAA investigation, lead up to the resignation letter and annointing of Raffo by Polk. Season is filled with embarassment as Polk tries to sabotge coaching search, gets kicked out of three games against a potential candidate, and then lashes out against USM fans. Recruiting class is ranked 61st. Attendance is plummeting as fans shown apathy and dissatisfaction.
