Just nuking snow at Alta and Snowbird and supposed to snow heavy into wednesday. Alta forecast is for close to 60 inches of snow. This on top of the 825 inches where they sit now. They have almost a 19 foot base right now. That is the all time record for snowfall at Alta and Snowbird. Most of Utah ski resorts have set records this winter. Hopefully you skiers are getting in on the goods. Alta averages 80 inches of snow in April, they should go over 900 inches for the season. Hopefully Snowbird stays open through July 4th like some of the resorts in California have announced. In case some of you are longing for snow I put the link to Alta's webcams below....
** Forgot to note I really hope and pray that all the western states with this record snowfall have a slow gradual rise in temps for their spring runoff. Would really help the drought, lake and stream levels as well as forest fires this summer.

Yes, a very snowy season in the inter mountain west and not all for the good. A rancher friend who lives in the southwest corner of Wyoming, just east of the Utah ski resorts is looking for some relief. His cows are starting to calf and the snow is deep and he stands to lose many. He had a dozer come in to plow a runway for the cows to calf but not a good situation. He lives in a mountain valley well over 7000 feet in elevation. I-80 thru Wyoming has been closed frequently this winter, 2 days ago the latest.

Yes I can imagine how difficult it is for ranchers and farmers out west this winter. Usually always is a other side of the coin for folks. Streams are going to be high this spring for fishing that is for sure.

They are some of the toughest, most kind, and hard working folks on the planet. Some of the most under appreciated as well. They invited me into their homes and taught me to drive a team of draft horses, check a box on the life list! 😁

That is pretty cool. I have talked to ranchers out west on vacation in Wyoming and Montana. They are one tough hombre.... Many times they are out on their own, something bad happens in the mountain pastures you have to figure it out yourself.

We’ve had .1 inch in Olney this winter. The numbers in the west are staggering. (Much needed, too.)
Unless you're out there in the mix of very heavy snowfall, the common person has no clue.
Sadly, most persons walking this planet earth can't compare the physical difference of 12 inches of snow fall to 100 inches.
😟

Unreal update from Alta... 60 inches so far from this storm. They stand at 870 inches. Anyone that has been to Alta knows the cross tow, well it is buried in snow. Here is the update from Alta Ski Area... And yes its still snowing...

Alta is no stranger to deep winters and huge storms, however, we continue to be amazed by this winter and this most recent storm.
Based on the forecast, Alta Ski Area will not open until Highway 210 opens. As always, follow @udotcottonwoods for road updates.
Sign lines are buried, the cross tow is buried and Ski Patrol routes and avalanche mitigation efforts continue to be slow going. There is so much more digging out that needs to take place before we can open. In the best-case scenario, we may have a small portion of the ski area open tomorrow by early afternoon.
Thanks for your continued support and stoke for our entire staff who are working tirelessly to spin the bullwheels again soon.

The snow pack in the Sierras and UT is just crazy. Lets hope for a very slow melt and all that water can be put to good use.
The Great Salt Lake and Mead and Powell sure could use it.

and Brighton is not far behind.

Really can't wait for it to be over.
I think everyone is ready out there. Alta now sits at 880 inches. Insane amounts the spring runoff is going to be nuts as if the snow wasn't enough rising rivers are now going to be a real concern. Good to see the Great Salt Lake levels rising and expecting another 5 foot rise with the melt. My friends live in Sandy they ended up with about a foot from this storm.

I live in Herriman, at the mouth of Rose Canyon, which is located in the southwest corner of Salt Lake County. Been a long snowy winter but very grateful for the snow pack. Very beautiful here with the surrounding mountains.

That is excellent news. Just hope for a nice slow melt.
