Obviously, Polk has lost credibility. It was idiotic for him to try to force us to hire anybody. He should have been called out for it more forcefully before the final decision. His true character was revealed afterwards. I feel pity for him on the pain of aging. That said, he has showed who and what he cares about, and he must be treated accordingly.

The MSU baseball tradition goes back further than I can see. I know of still living players that lettered in the early 1950's. My impression is that they had some great teams, tho I haven't checked the stats.

Whoever brought Polk for Georgia is an idiot. LT of course played a part, but I wonder who else in the MSUADept., who is still there like a wart or cancer actually pushed for this asinine grasp at the past.

It's good to see us moving forward, but I am still sad.

Templeton promised Polk he could name his successor?

Would this still be true?

I mean, I would still argue that was a promise on the part of Larry and the University wasn't bound by it. But, I'm not sure you could call it idiotic if that were the case.

I'm not in the loop, but what a horrible promise to make. Ideally, you leave the program better than you found it and who takes over should have nothing to do with that. LT's hires don't have a good record in this regard, esp. JWS and now Polk and his empty office.

What kind of university is MSU if it can be held hostage by a single man? It burns my ***.

When McMahon came back it was publicly stated that he would be the next coach. And his promise to Croom that we were committed to him for 4 years after probation ended was also a public promise. If he'd promised Polk that Raffo would be the next coach, I think we'd have heard about it.

at least the plan. It seems to me that our athletic department is pretty bad about the promises they make. They just don't think them through. Take the hump seating -- you can have those seats for life. What a horrible promise to make. But, it would be easy for an athletic director to make that promise who absolutely didn't feel like his job was on the line and tied to winning. In comes an AD who rightly thinks he will be judged on, among other things, the wins of the coaches that report to him. And he makes a hire that is coldly calculated to produce maximum wins.

I don't know. Maybe this promise wasn't made. But, Polk sure talks like someone who has been lied to. Maybe Polk just decided in his own mind that the University owed him the right to name his successor.

Polk doesn't seen so much to me like a guy who's been lied to as he seems like a guy who's just plain batshit crazy.

We've never kept these type promises secret before (see the promises made to Pat McMahon and Sly Croom). And Polk hasn't mentioned anything about any promise. Just that he thinks he should be the AD of baseball because he's "earned" it.
