in the SEC tourney to assure ourselves of a 4,5,or 6 seed vs the 7,8,9 seed that I see most projections having us at?

Goal being to avoid the 1 and 2 seed for as long as possible, and also hopefully staying out of Little Rock since we seem to play so well there... a lot of these projectionists seem to want us to play there for some reason

I just don't see the "quality wins" boost from winning our side of the bracket being enough to move us all that much. If we play TN or Vandy in the finals, that would be nice, but I just don't see a big jump unless we simply blow everybody off the court in a way that we haven't done all year.

thoughts?

If we get to Sun probably 5. Anything less we stay at a 7.

edit: What happens in the other conf tourneys also affects what happens.

Win it to get a 5. Beating UT or Vandy might get us a 4. Getting to the final, probably a 6. Anything else, a 7. That's my guess...

Agree except I don't think we can get up to a 4 with our lack of quality wins.

Well, I think that's what beating UT or Vandy would get us. A high profile win that nothing else we have done is even remotely close to.

Beat, say, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee? I think we get a 5 or 4.
Beat, say, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina? We get a 7 or 6.

It used to be said that the SEC conference championship game didn't factor into the Committee's decisions (because it was played too late and decisions have to be made prior).

Is this still the case?

I personally think it does matter due to our 3 seed in 2002. I don't think we had earned that until we won the SECT.

Unless a team playing is not in already, they have the bracket already filled out by Sunday morning.

He listed several myths about the selection process in his blog the other day. One was:

"The committee works on the bracket all week (nope … they don't start until about 90 minutes prior to the 6 p.m. ET deadline on Sunday)."

The SEC championship game will need to be over by 3:30 our time in order to "count" according to this, and it will be easily.

I believe the Big 12 game is played right after our game. With UT/Kansas,/Texas all in the mix for a 1 seed they will wait till he last minute to make a lot of decisions.
