Even though I sometimes disagree with what she does with it, Staley correctly understands the place she has in the game of women's basketball. She is, arguably, the most influential person in the game. Despite their disappointment in the game, I suspect the ladies of Norfolk State were honored to have her pay a visit.

Dabo doesn't hold that same place in the game of college football.

lol

Dabo did it: what a condescending douche!!

Dawn does it: awesome! Love it!!

That was my first thought.

I thought I remember Dabo going I to congratulate a team that beat them, not talk with a team they beat. But I think the point remains the same.

Going to an opponent’s locker room post game is fraught with land mines.
Do you know the opposing coach?
Did you win or lose?
Was it a contentious game or rivalry game?
Did you ask the opposing coach permission or just show up?

Coach Staley almost always says good things about opponents in the pre game and post game presser.(Get a clue Geno) Dawn recognizes the importance of HBCUs. She schedules at least one every season. I think that played into her decision. Did she uplift the athletes or glorify herself? Different folks will see that differently.

Coach K after we beat Duke on our run to the final four came to our locker room door and asked to speak to Frank. I don’t remember if he came in and spoke to the team. But he sang our praises long and loud, saying he had never played as tough a mental or physical team. Our fanbase ate it up with joy. Dabo could have done the same thing last year and he would be an A$$wipe.

Wish that would have resulted in a regular season home-and-home with Dook on the hardwood (hasn't happened since we played on a tartan rubber floor).

I could not conceive of Dawn showing up in any opponent's locker room without permission.

I personally hate it. Only someone who really things very highly of themselves will do this kind of stuff. And it’s even worse when a camera is right there to catch it.
Depends on the person. Dawn can do it; Dabo can't. IMO, a lot of it likely has to do with the relationship between the coaches.

Dabo did it:
Didn't bother me. Neither of them would have done that if not invited.

Amazing the things people get their panties in a twist over.

So What No GIF

Jus curious bc I remember many didn’t like when Dabo went to the visitors locker room after a beat down.

Not at all surprising that two incredibly strong and powerful black women cause some discourse on this board.

re: Dabo.

Here's what a Syracuse player thought after Dabo visited their locker room following Syracuse's win over Clemson:

Added another Syracuse player: "He came in and congratulated us, just saying, 'Great win,' and that was probably one of the most class-act things I've ever seen,"

And head coach Dino Babers: "When I got back, players were telling me that [Swinney] came in, and that does not surprise me. He's a first-class act. I guarantee you if someone said, 'Hey, Dabo wants to talk to the team; what do you want us to do?' I'd say, 'If Dabo Swinney wants to talk to my football team, you let him talk.' That's how much respect I have for that man."

My own two cents is that it's a bit more awkward after you've defeated the team. Honestly, the last thing I want to do after we've just lost is hear from the opposing the coach about how hard we played, how proud we should be, etc.

? Not sure pulling the race card is warranted here. It's a comparison of two coaches who did the same thing, and got different reactions.
I stand by what I said. And my comments weren't about the ridiculous Staley/Dabo comparison.

If not for the legitimate comparison, there's even less of a reason to break out the race card. But to each their own.
Hmmmmm....two strong and powerful black women speaking out in support of historically black colleges. Gheee what possibly could be the undertone of the critique.

If you dismiss the obvious and blatant double standard on display related to the comparison, and pretend the VP didn't talk to a group of college kids like they were third graders....... no, still see no need to try and drag the conversation down to the race baiting level.

Double standard are your terms. I see the most powerful woman in the world congratulating and trying to inspire young women as an alum of the college they just played for in the NCAA tourney. Takes looking with a specific eye to find critique in that.

Or you could watch the video, it's pretty obvious.

But I'm allowing you to drag me into the race baiting debate by even replying, and thus giving it more legitimacy than it deserves.

Have a nice day. (Note, there is no racial component to that sentiment, no matter how hard you try to look for one.)

Saying dawn did good while dabo was out of line is a blatant double standard. The only reason it exist is blind hatred. Both situations are the same.

Not sure people actually said that. I know i didn't. Seemed more a rush of our own "fans" commenting how what they felt Dawn did was the same as what Dabo did and Gamecocks criticized him.
