no one is saying anything anymore. It is clear we have fallen so far that what was the star program of not only our athletic department, but all of college baseball, no one covers much of anything anymore. I didnt stay up and watch it last night although I did watch a bit when we took the 3-1 lead and then my wife HAD to watch "This is us". However, I expected to get up and have alert on my phone from GoGamecocks with the result but there was nothing. I clicked that app and again, nothing. I had to go to D1 baseball to see final score. Even other sites aid almost nothing.
So here we are at the death nail of a program, apathy. Not even media cares enough to cover it anymore. It is a shame where we have now ended up.

I don’t follow beisbol. Most don’t. The baseball fanatics do, but there’s only several thousand. Football and basketball, on the other hand, draw far greater interest. Hence, many more people become upset when those programs falter.

The crappy baseball is also overshadowed by football's spring practice, the crapshow of hiring a new basketball coach, and the women's team starting their tournament run. Bad baseball just isn't going to be at the front of fans' minds.

You don't follow it. That's fine.

Just leave and let those of us who do follow Baseball have an adult conversation.

Nobody said otherwise. Just said the reason the chatter is so light is because relatively few care when compared to football and MBB.

Yeah, football averages 70,000+ in a crappy year and about 80,000 in a good year. Basketball averages 9,000+ in a crappy year and over 15,000 in a good year. Beisbol averages 6,000 in a great year.

What’s beisbol averaging so far this year, Mac?
You’re not wrong when looking through this lens. But there are other lenses.

Any sport outside Football and MBB that can be revenue neutral is better for the Football and MBB programs. Less money directed elsewhere. So if WBB or baseball can be revenue neutral by virtue of being successful enough to draw interest the overall benefit is pretty big.

I agree that in terms of $$$ only those two spots generally matter, but in the Title IX era, success as the lesser attended or lesser watched in TV sports matters a lot.

Any sport which is at least revenue neutral is better for all other sports at the school - not just those named football and men's basketball.

Obviously. But the gist is the big two are the big two because more people care. The fewer other sports they subsidize is better for them.
