C. Positive: seems to have kept Cael happy enough. Big deduction for TPG - The Parting Gift. That one should be a felony, but the checks share the blame on that ugly baby.

Kieger is a plus? At best she's an incomplete.

Guess no one pays attention to the amount of debt that Athletic Department ran up since she took over.

I believe she is one of the reasons Russ Rose gave for retiring which is that the administration did not stand behind him anymore. Sandy did seem to make some good hires but only time will tell(I think it is too early to tell) but she left the AD with a budget shortfall like she did at her previous place.

Debt, schmebt. We’ll all be gone before it‘s paid down, so who cares?

Kieger is a good coach and just needs time and a few bigs. But she’s going to get there and is going about it the right way. Same with WVB.

And I wouldn’t worry too much about the debt with all the B10 millions about to flow in. $100 million per year of TV money? If you want to be elite you have to spend $. It’s hard to compete against Nebraska WVB when their team gets a private jet.

Yeah, Sandy's responsible for that, too. I'd venture to guess that a sizeable portion of those future earnings have already been spent.

D - Wasted too much money, athletic department has so much staff, they have to double -up at the one desk. WWB basketball coach is not suited for Big 10 coaching (what improvement have you seen in 3 years?) and football has so many coaches, there will be no room on the sideline players.

The biggest negative I can say for her is signing the ridiculously awful home and home series with Temple in football. Absolutely no justification for it and it will make it harder to market our schedule. It is probably worth it to just buy out those games and replace them with a real opponent
Do you think Temple subsidized her retirement $ ?

So less is as good as more as long as less is still positive? You can count the number of times that’s been a recipe for greatness on your unicorn horn.

More wins! That’s what matters. You want to save money, root for Temple.

I suppose that explains your deep disappointment w Barbour then - dramatically (very dramatically) LESS wins (worst in history for PSU) since she took over.
Keep your head up though. Things can, hopefully, get better.

Sandy is a classic case of 'f*ck up, move up'; she's Milton'd at Cal for being pretty terrible (optics of firing her probably why she wasn't canned) and then hired for a top five AD job at Penn State. Really, it's not hard - take care of football. That is it. Everything else sort of runs itself. Don't f up. Especially don't sign, and give a hefty raise to, your average game day footbal coach, whose other full-time job is floating his name out there with any and all available coaching vacancies, to a ten year extension well before his current contract is up. So, she gets an F.

Former Penn State Athletic Director Sandy Barbour was awarded as the Sports Business Journal’s Athletic Director of the Year for the 2020-2021 school year. Barbour is a first-time winner after being a finalist in 2009 and 2018.

Is there some other reason people here seem to dislike her? She seems to have gotten a lot of high praise among her peers in the industry.

So, according to their website, "she" paid $899.00 a year to be a member. If she started as a member in 2009(?). That's only $9,889 for her prestigious
award (It's Fra-gilly!! ya know!)

Yup, all of those bigs and other great players are just beating down the doors to play for her. And if you think so much of her, you really ought to know her name.

And just in case, you hadn't noticed about half of that $100mm (it's probably less, but we won't quibble) is already being spent. But, yeah, they can spend it on a private jet for a volleyball team that already loses money and when Beaver Stadium falls over they can find solace, maybe, in another piece of meaningless hardware in the trophy case.

At least try to spell her name correctly, if you want any clout

Maybe PSU can spend the remaining $100mm on Barron's Louvre?

What other championship trophies are meaningless in your opinion? Should we just manage to eliminate all non money making sports? That’s just myopic. It’s not a business, and shouldn’t be judged as one.

2009? You mean right before she got fired for the first time? 2018, 2021 - right before she got fired a second time. Sounds prestigious.

We would have also accepted Kegger.

Yeah. I’m fine with a healthy debate about the AD spending but when people complain about non revenue sports “losing money” and being meaningless, they definitely lose me. I want PSU to be successful in all sports and that means using a relatively small percentage of the football/conference revenue on Olympic sports to have them exist and be competitive, I am totally fine with that.

I love PSU having a robust athletics department and a significant number of student athletes and teams.
