Fifth year guy who hasn't been drafted high enough to leave
Sophomore who started hot then tailed off as FR
Transfer who hasn't done it at this level
Fred Patek Jr
Disappointing sophomore who was last year's promising freshman
Promising freshman
Transfer that people are going to set unfairly high expectations for
Junior who has yet to find consistency
An unproven bat

Easy. Don't get my hopes up too high now.

I kinda figured we’d see Hines at 1st.

Hancock - C
Hines - 1st
Larry - 2nd
Forsythe - SS
Alford - 3rd
Clark - OF
Ledbetter - OF
Jordan - OF
I’ll be surprised if this isn’t the group today. I would expect Highfill to catch one of the games this weekend and then you’ll probably also see guys like Downs, Mershon, and Hujsak in some capacity.

I can't imagine Hujsak not starting, at minimum DH. That guy doesn't leave VCU after starting for 2 years to come here and sit the bench. And we wouldn't have recruited him to do that, regardless of practice stats.

My guess:

1. Amani Larry(R) 2B
2. Colton Ledbetter(L) LF
3. Slate Alford(R) 3B
4. Hunter Hines(L) 1B
5. Luke Hancock(L) C
6. Dakota Jordan(R) CF
7. Kellum Clark(L) RF
8. Aaron Downs(R) DH
9. Lane Forsythe(R) SS

DH is the one I'm least confident about. Chance & Hujsak will see time there as well. It'll be a solid lineup regardless

He does if he can’t beat out anybody in front of him. If paper won baseball games, our depth on PAPER is outstanding. But the guys with the bats and gloves and arms have to win games on the field. I will be very concerned if we have scores like 6-5, 5-4 , 7-6 this weekend, especially if one of those is a loss.

this team is going to have to score a lot of runs early to let the pitching develop against live comp.

If we sweep this weekend, regardless of score, you should not be concerned.

My best guess would be:

1 Larry 2B
2 Ledbetter LF
3 Hancock C
4 Hines 1B
5 Jordan CF
6 Alford 3B
7 Clark RF
8 Hujsak or Downs DH
9 Forsythe SS

Really hope that Forsythe can take some steps at the plate this year and start sliding his way up the lineup this season.
And if your DH isn't a speedy OBP type guy, I really hate having to bat them so low in the order. I'd love a 3 hole DH to emerge somewhere

Does it say more about the young guys or less about Hancock that he's starting this year in the 7 hole after being a top 3 guy last year? He was 4th/5th for most of 2021's title run too IIRC
He is the 6th or 7th most talented bat in our lineup and I don’t think that’s an insult to him. We have some legit prospects batting in front of him.

I'm hoping the former, but yeah I noticed that too. Hoping this lineup is next level similar to 2016.
