Great to take a look at the scholarship roster broken down by class and position.
Observations:
Need more upper classman Olinemen that are actually playing. It seems the staff is now trying to maintain a higher number of olinemen on the roster, but to be a top offense PSU needs to develop high talent olinemen and have them playing as as least 3rd and 4th year players. The NFL will always lure away the high end players after 3 years, and other will move on when they see they won't see the field for PSU, so it seems the staff will need to recruit a minimum of 4 olinemen each year and have a 16+ player oline room each Fall.
Five TE's seems like a luxury.
Is there really a need for 11 WR's on an 85 player roster. If PSU recruits at least one top talent at WR each year and that player (or another) plays a role in the game WR rotation 9-10 WR's would seem like plenty. It seems easier to contribute as a true freshman WR than at say... LB...
4 QB's seems about right, as long as there is at least 1 capable walk on QB on the roster.
With the physical development and learning curve that the LB position requires, 8 scholarship LB's does not seem to be enough. Especially when top players at LB-U now move on after 3 years.
With the emphasis on rushing the QB, a 5 player DE rotation is a necessity, but if PSU can recruit a DE each year that can actually contribute as a true frosh like everyone expects DDI to do, 10 DE's seems like too many. But right now there seem to be a good many DE's that have been slow to develop.....
Anyone else have any comments?
