What will it really take to bring this absolute madness under control? Will it take the Bama's, OSU's, Mich's, SoCal's or ND's of the CFB world to experience some massive negative portal/transfer chaos before someone steps up and gets the ball rolling on some change? (And let's face it, those schools are net positive NIL/portal players, so that isn't likely happening.) I mean, who really cares when We, or Akron, or Wingate, or Vandy are decimated year in and year out? What will it take?

Will the NCAA step up and do anything? ( :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: ) We all know the answer to that. Will it be up to the conferences to formulate a plan and band together? How does that work? Does it even matter at all now that players have litigated and won (Few years back)? I think now, any regulation attempted will probably just be sued away. Re-instate tranfer limits? Lawsuit! Regulate collectives? Lawsuit! Etc, etc.

Another thread!

But seriously, the NCAA has been rendered powerless by the SCOTUS on the matter.

Fair enough.... Lots of frustration to let out. (Well, I mean, not in the grand scheme of life, but for my sports brain.....)

The Bama's of the world will never experience a gutting via the portal.

I think they will. It will just take a little longer for it to show up. I think on Monday you're going to see a lot of former 4-5* guys from the last 2 classes hit b/c they're sitting behind other 4-5 star guys and they want to play.

Well, what I mean is, they will not lose key contributors. Schools like Bama will lose highly rated guys who haven't yet been able to get on the field or find themselves buried on the depth chart. But they'll just replace those guys with equally talented ones via recruiting. In my opinion. I just don't see schools like Bama, UGA, Michigan, etc losing starters or key contributors in any significant numbers.

No. Their depth will be hindered, which is what always separated them. You can only put 11 on the field. But when your 2s would be 1s for your opponents it creates a gap.

But they can easily replace their 2s from recruiting or they'll pick the cream of the crop from the portal.
Yeah, i get that. But they used to be able to roll out JRs that were 4-5*s that waited on their turn. That's not going to happen anymore.

I would add a transfer stipulation that a player cannot transfer to a team that their current team plays the following season.

It will take contracts and non-competes. You wanna be an employee, gettin’ paid? Then your employer has rights too.

But how do we get there? What does it take to get those things and others on the table and ultimately onto paper?

The Bama, OSU, UGA, Michigans of the world can rotate talent in and out without a drop off because they stack top recruiting classes and they have games where they are up by multiple scores. Rotating players in does two things. First, it gives the younger players, freshmen and sophomores, actual live game experience which translates into having better starters when those players become starters in a couple years. Second, it lets the 2s get a LOT of playing time and keeps them from feeling like they are sitting when they could be playing somewhere else.

Competing for championships also keeps the best players out of the portal. The backups are part of a team that is winning big and playing for championships. They want to be a part of the next group of starters who win a championship. Going to the portal and winding up on a 6-8 win team isn't very appealing to them. If you look at the players who leave those top programs, they are usually players who were highly rated recruits but haven't panned out in college and are buried on the depth chart.

Conversely, the players from programs like Carolina, Kentucky, etc. who go in the portal are, many times, some of the best talent on the team because they want to go to a team where they can play for a chance at a championship.
