I might be the one you are talking about that has seen him live, but I do agree that he has good upside. There was a scout at the game that was specifically looking at him, so that we're not the only ones who also think he has a chance to be pretty good in the future.
Based on what I saw, I would say that he is not ready for a spot in the weekend rotation on an SEC team, and he won't be until he comes up with a third pitch, probably a change-up. His breaking ball- curveball I think- is very good, and is his out pitch, and that's going to allow him to get by with a little less velocity because his breaking ball is about 10 MPH slower than his fastball. That said, since he is only a junior, I would say that with proper coaching and ice, I think he will probably top out at 92-93 (He is now at 89) or so in college. He has room to grow, and he's going to get stronger and fill out.
I love his delivery- it's nice and easy, and it doesn't look like he's putting a whole lot of effort out there when he throws, so eventually, he will probably be an SEC starter- probably by the time he is a So.
The one thing that concerns me a little is that his ERA was kind of high- 1.98- but I'm not sure if that's skewed by a bad outing or what.
Another thing that I like about him is that he is a competitor, and he was able to work his way out of some pretty tough jams when I saw him. And the fact that he emerged as the ace on a team that had another Dandy Dozen pitcher tells me something about him as well. He has great poise, and I think he will probably be a fan favorite in a couple of years.
