Austin, Texas Labor Day weekend 1992. I have a good friend from Vicksburg that was in school at UT at the time. She and her husband came up to Starkville the year before so I headed down the next. Left Starkville Thursday after class. We tooled around town Friday, played Muni Saturday then watched the dawgs beat that asss again. Left Austin on Monday still hungover.

The drive back was a lot longer than the one down.

Mine would have to be 1999 Auburn. First game I ever left early in my life. My dad instilled in me at a young age "as long they're playing, we're staying." Well fast forward to a crossing route caught by Terrell Grindle and as he is tucking the ball away running - ball hits his knee and he fumbles. Down 16-3 in the 4th quarter and my friends kept telling me they wanted to go, I gave in.

We get back to our car and there is an Auburn tailgate going on. We hear the score is 16-10 and Auburn is about to punt so we listen. You know how it ends and our group starts going crazy. I individually shake the hands of the Auburn fans at the tailgate acting like I played in the game and tell them good game in a drunken stupor. I should have been hit in the face but they saw the specimen in front of them and decided against it. I grab my cowbell from my friend's car and we walk back to the stadium. I was not ringing the cowbell per se but with every step - it did one "clink". I was trying to be as obnoxious as possible without ringing the cowbell in all of the Auburn's fans faces. That's the quietest I've ever heard a stadium. We make it back to the State gate and party and wait for the team to walk out. Celebrate and party in Auburn that night.

2nd was my 21st birthday @ Memphis in 2000. The game itself was OK but the previous night was crazy that ended at the purple church - Platinum Plus for the night cap.

Going to Hattiesburg to watch us beat USM and Brett Favre. It was during the early cup throwing phase after touchdowns and cups (not empty) were raining down on the mustard buzzard fans on the lower deck. All kinds of law enforcement, city, county, national guard were escorting folks out. Students were pelting the cops with drinks too. I think 30 or 40 students got thrown out of that game.

The 2011 Gator keeps standing out. Ended the bowl drought. The shock and rush to accommodate that the hosts of the fan gatherings had to do because Mississippi State would actually have a shoulder to shoulder crowd show up instead of the 100 or so they prepared for. The 5-1 MSU fan to Michigan fan ratio in Jacksonville when they thought it was going to be the opposite. The complete takeover of Everbank field to the point it looked like a MSU home game. And the crowing *** Michigan fans who purposely bought tickets in the MSU sections to taunt MSU fans leaving at the end of the third quarter. And the complete 180 in attitude the gator bowl people had toward MSU in going from having to be talked into taking MSU by Slive to being overwhelmed by the attendance.

1998 at Ole Miss was fun.
I got pushed by a female Ole Miss student while she yelled "get out of our student section". That's the closest I've come to hitting a woman. I was just walking down the stands because I don't acting like a fool at an away game unless I'm in the State section. Not counting 1999 Auburn.

Never saw us win a bowl game IN PERSON (sigh). And I haven't traveled to opposing stadiums very much to see us play.

That said, the best road game I went to was probably the '94 Egg Bowl. Almost got to clang a few s-birds in the head with the cowbell, and loved watching Davis and Bouie run all over the Dixie Flaggers.

1998 Ole Miss - winning the SECW @ their trailer park
2014 LSU - legendary trip stayed in NOLA with a group of friends. We were out all night Friday went to the game, came back for Bourbon Street again Saturday night, & then Saints game on Sunday. I think that I watched MSU get grudge 17'ed in Baton Rouge at least 43 times between John Bond & 2014.
2011 Gator Bowl - played the stadium course on New Years Eve & watched kick Michigan's to break the Bowl streak on New Years Day

2010 Ole Miss and 2015 Auburn. Tailgated all day and knew we were going to win both.

2006 Alabama was a sneaky good one that I just happened to attend at the last minute.

I imagine all of you that went to 2014 LSU will have that one. One of my bigger sports regrets.

Back in the day, winning at Ole Miss was required otherwise it really sucked trying get out of the visitors section with the crowd. Really crappy egress design. Staying in the stands celebrating a win allowed the crowd time to get back out to the groooove just in time for us to ease through smugly…

2010 Florida - It was Mullen's first trip back to Florida, and we beat Urban in Gainesville. It was the first time we had won in Gainesville since well before I was born, and I'm 57 now.
2017 A&M - It was the final destination of my quest of watching a game at all the SEC stadiums and we beat the Aggies like a drum.

Good lord man, I just started thinking through the road games I’ve attended, and here they are

‘00 Memphis football - I mean, we won but the depths of Hell are cooler than it was that day
‘01 Florida football - complete assrape in the swamp
‘07 Georgia football - heartbreaker and infamous Croom decision to go for it from midfield on 4th & 10 but then punt a couple minutes later on 4th & short from the 35
‘07 Arkansas football - Steamrolled by McFadden/Jones
‘08 Egg bowl - 45-0, but Croom is gone. Yay?
‘12 Bama football - We believe

Honestly, the best I’ve got is a train ride to New Orleans in ‘07 I think when we beat Tulane

All of my football road trips were State getting destroyed.

Basketball I have the 04 game against Bama in Tuscaloosa. Middle of the second half during a TV timeout I stood up to leave and decided to just wait and let the crowd die down of people leaving/going to concessions. Glad I waited.

2003 - Zimmermans layup to beat Ole Miss in Oxford. I swear I jumped 10 feet in the air when he hit that.

1989. I was there.

The Famous Maroon Band playing the FSU War Chant was a nice touch.

I’ll add 1991 Men’s Basketball at Ole Miss

That was the Wednesday after we beat Kentucky at home and entered the rankings at 23rd

I went with friends who were on State’s College Bowl (quiz bowl) team and their sponsor.

They had a scrimmage against their Ole Miss counterparts before regional competition a few weeks later...

After the scrimmage, we went to the Tad Pad.

Ole Miss led early and there were OVERRATED chants from the Rebels.

We came back to win and chanted WE ARE RATED…

Postscript—
Riding back to Starkville, my friends asked me what I thought of the quiz bowl scrimmage.

I told them that the questions were pretty easy and I got some glances from them when I said that.

That fall, I was asked to be on my friends’ team for the MSU qualifier.

I did well and the team represented State at regionals again.

1997 Auburn. My first visit there. We won. Aubuies were nice enough.

1997 Alabama. First game to see us win there. Got seats off a scalper outside the stadium. We sat on the 50 in chairbacks. Some bama fan quizzed us about gaining the tickets. I told him a scalper. He didn't believe Mr such and such would sell his tickets to a scalper. I said thats where we got them. Needless to say our presence wasn't welcomed but... we enjoyed ourselves.

2024 Texas. First visit there. Just a fun trip all around. Cool city. Cool gameday on campus. They were nice enough. Plenty of state fans there.

Wife and I went to the 2010 Egg Bowl in Oxford. It was a relatively stress-free win until we let them make it close in the 4th quarter. We got Ole Miss tickets since it was a poorly attended game by the home crowd with it being near the end of Giggity's tenure and they were looking at a 4-8 season. There might have been more State fans there than OM fans. The OM fans sitting around me were nice, until we went up 31-6 in the 3rd and some students or younger alumni sitting further back behind us threw their drinks our way. Always good to get a win at their place.

That was the game where a drunk Ole Miss fan whispered in my ear "I hope you die in a fire". Looking back at my experiences at Ole Miss.... I will say every time I've had a bad experience at Ole Miss - I sat in their section not State.

Any home game from the ‘98 season. Everybody had car flags and it was like a Miss State Bulldog army going to the game. Wrapped around the curve entrance coming off 45. I can still feel the excitement.

Lexington Kentucky Sweet 16 March Madness March 1996. Sat with some Kentucky fans after we had roasted them in the SEC Tourney, as they discussed how MSU would beat State for the championship, as they devised a scheme to pay off Bullard in the final four game so Kentucky would not have to play State again and lose ***

2011 gator bowl. That was overall a fun trip great party the night before and game was fantastic.
2014 lsu game great time. LSU fans had no idea they were about to get that *** best. It was awesome with seeing lsu fans leaving Death Valley early. Won't ever forget that and having fun after the game yelling leaving campus.
2014 orange bowl trip was great. Game sucked but the trip was fun spent the days before going down east coast of Florida stoping different places and then went out to the keys day before the game

me and the Mrs had some fine trips to New Orleans to see us play Tulane back when we were young. However the best trip was the 1974 trip to Memphis to see Rocky Felker and Company beat Memphis State. Just drove up there, went to the game, and drove straight back. It wasn’t big at the time, but 51 years later, it’s special. We didn’t a lot of those moments back then and I wish we could have had more while he was still alive.

1991 Auburn - beginning of the end for Pat Sullivan, but had my heart broken later that night driving back listening to Game 6 of the '91 World Series and Kirby's walk-off to force Game 7

1998 SEC Championship - a high water mark

2010 Florida - had seats on the 50 right behind the UF bench. Loudest I've heard MSU fans in an opposing venue was the Maroon/
White cheer that interrupted Urban's post game presser.

2011 Gator Bowl- #@$% Michigan!

Auburn 2014 would be number one. I was also at Auburn 2021. Down 28-3 late second I thought about leaving. We scored with less than a minute left to make it 28-10 and we got the second half kick off so I stayed. Scored something like 35 in a row. I've never seen a stadium turn from pure madness to utter silence and disgust. Many State fans made the game and we had a blast. Largest comeback in school history and I hate Auburn so it was awesome.

Oh I forgot about the 98 SECCG. They had people outside the stadium with megaphones, "no cowbells or artificial noise makers...." blah blah. So I had to sneak mine in.

I got to the gate, with some highly tactical reverse psychology, and asked the lady if she was going to check me for cowbells. She said "honey I don't care." Got my cowbell in but barely rang it out of fear.

Saw Smoots mom and family there. She was a character as well.

We almost won. Almost. I'm glad I went just to witness the spectacle of it all.

2010 Florida game. Had a friend who went there at the time so we got to do all the cool student tailgating stuff. Everyone was super friendly considering they thought they were gonna whip our tail.

2020 LSU game. Watched it with a bunch of LSU friends in New Orleans. They were stunned. One of the last conversations I had with my Dad before his health started declining

2014, Baton Rouge. My family wanted to leave early because my daughter from Boston was flying in to NOLA to surprise me on my birthday. I said heck no since we were beating 17 out of LSU. They finally convinced me to leave, and LSU fans asked me why we were leaving early. Told them I couldn’t watch another minute of their sorry football team. First and last time I could say that.

2021 28-3 Auburn come back. Auburn fans were asking us in the first half if we thought Leach was really going to work out with tongue in cheek sarcasm. 10 minutes left in the game I look back at them and said I think we're doing just fine based on today's results. Never in my life would I have AUBURN fans of all people accusing us of paying off refs, in fact one guy asked how much it took and I responded "$180,000"

2022 Egg Bowl was great too. Ole Miss fans were a little more sensitive and dejected after that one thinking that Kiffin was hopping on a plane to Auburn the next day.

I also enjoyed Texas this past year even with the results, most of the older fans joked that Rickey just ran for another touchdown on us. Probably one of the most quiet 100,000 seat stadiums I've been too though.
