July 4th weekend is upon us & hope all my feathered friends have the best 4th ever!

Back in the day there was this one song, a song constantly waffling through speakers of every transistor radio sitting on sandy beach towels all along the Grand Strand! - some believe- "The Happenings" were the first to sing & record this song. NOPE, NADA, a group from Pittsburg, known as The Tempo's were, back in 59. The lead singer of the Tempo's nails the vocals, in my opinion.
I'm willing to bet most of you, like me, who know themselves to be "ole geezers" (kidding, of course) knows this song by heart.

No matter which group you prefer, this song is one of those that'll last beyond the end of time, a staple for beach music lovers & shaggers alike. & I are both! Well, I attempt to shag, lol!

If I may, To kick off the 4th of July festivities, a throw-back to a time that'll never grow old, I give you both, The Tempo's & The Happenings!

NOTE: you may have to highlight each link & click "go to". I apologize for my infantile computer skills & for any ads that may appear. Believe me, just being able to copy & paste is a monumental achievement, for me. I will promise you this though, not many of you will go thru the holiday weekend w/o humming/singing a few bars, wanna bet?

You decide which is better?

Thanks, great song and both renditions are fantastic as well. A Summer Song, by Chad and Jeremy, also brings back memories. Girl On A Swing too.

Not sure that they bring back memories of summer for me but I do like your taste in music. Rock on!

Like the version by The Happenings better and it's the version in my music library. Has a great dance tempo.

Brings back thoughts of sitting on a river bank, fishing with my Dad and friends, the Marshall Tucker Band, "Bob Away My Blues"

Unless I overlooked, I'm surprised there aren't any songs mentioned by Marley, Buffet, and just 1 Beach Boys song.
These artists seem to be quintessential "summer".

Never was a fan of those 3 and never owned any of their music. I'm probably one of the exceptions.

Really like Kokomo by the Beach Boys. Not a typical bobby sox gum chewing BB song.
Elvis-It's Now or Never.
Sarah Vaughn-Broken Hearted Melody. What a voice.
ABBA-Chiquitita
