When arguing who should be in, way too much weight is placed on a team being in a P5 conference.

"They were undefeated in a P5 conference!!!"

Yeah, and their SOS was 55th.

I DGA17 who makes it or doesn't each year, but the discussion is usually interesting.
And yeah this year's discussion is really interesting since it's so controversial or close or whatever you want to call it.

But just laying down P5 as if it should be some trump card that ends the conversation is missing critical info, at least in my view.

FSU won every game they played. They did everything they could do.
There were also had 54 teams that played harder schedules.
Don't care that they are P5. Heck, only 12 P5 schools had worse SOS than FSU.

What this actually shows is the CFP needed to be expanded sooner. Helen 17ing Keller.

Yeah… there’s some validity to P5 still because it is clearly separated from weaker conferences on the strength rankings, but I agree. There’s nothing magical about P5. Why not P4 or P3 or P2. All that matters is how good the teams that you played were in a given year, not some kind of nostalgia for a conference that has been historically decent

They didn’t do everything they could do:

They could have scheduled harder out of conference opponents
They could have been more convincing in their wins

4 to 6 teams is plenty.
Go back to the BCS computer sydtem
Keep the committee. Let them rank and use that at 15 to 25% of the computer formula.

They scheduled LSU and Florida. You’ll be hard pressed to find many schools with 2 tougher OOC games.
Sucks for them that neither team was really really goor and Florida was less than average

but their overall schedule was very weak

maybe that’s out of their control but the point is and should be to let the best teams play in the olayoffs

fsu isn’t even the 5th best team

Or nostalgia for a historically dominant conference that was not as such this year applies too

Schedule grind is a real thing. They played 10 P5 opponents, that matters.

I want the best teams in it no matter the conference. But I just find it hard many P5 conference champions losing to a G5 Conference champion. I will add that I don't believe there is a G5 team and there is only one P5 team that would beat GA. For the first time in a few years Bama lined up and just physically beat on a team last night. GA did pound back. I watched every conference championship game and I did not see one team that will match that physical play from last night.

Whatever, Florida State did enough to earn a top four spot IMHO. Georgia was overrated the whole season and that gave an outsized boost to Alabama for beating them. Georgia’s best win was over Ole Miss. Florida State’s wins were just as good as UGA’s.

For all you people who don’t think FSU should be in it, I ask you this question - would you have the same opinion if it was undefeated MSU?
