Where will the next SEC available HC position be?

I'm guessing the next opening is at UT. Now, the USC job might technically be open beforehand, but Jr. gets handed that job (in my opinion), so that one doesn't count. Vandy might make a change but who cares?

Assuming UT is the next opening, who do you predict that they go after?

Brian Kelly maybe?

Which shocked me considering that their results the past 7 years have been pretty ordinary. I wonder what the buyout clause in that contract is.

which is what your predicted order infers, do you think it'll be because of our continued ****** performance or because he gets thrown big dollars to head up another program?

I think Nutt bails on OM for the Oklahoma State job, unlimited money, big 12 easier than SEC west.

The only reason that he put up with the constant bashing in Arkansas was that he is from there. I think he stayed in the SEC, because he wanted to show Arkansas what they ran out of town. So I would say in three to four years, he will either have fallen flat on his face and be run out of town or will have turned um around and have his name thrown into the hat for a big time coaching spot.

some peaks and valleys in his career at Ole Miss but that in turn will be the reason he doesn't get fired or bolt for big money. I think Bobby Petrino maybe the next out even though he is the newest one of the 12. He has a history of changing employers quite often.

I think the only way he gets hired away is if it's by Oklahoma State. I just don't think anyone else big enough to buy him away from us would come after him.

The reason I say that is that he was basically run out of town at Arkansas. With the landscape of college football these days, if you're an AD for one of the big boys, you better go out and get someone that's the next big thing or someone that's from the NFL. So much of college coaching hires comes down to PR these days, and a coach that was basically fired from a mid-level BCS program is typically a big enough black mark that the schools with the big money wouldn't touch it.

If Nutt were to win an SEC title or two at Ole Miss, then I could see that black mark being overlooked by the money programs. Obviously, I don't really see that happening, so I just don't think he'll be a hot enough item to be courted by big enough schools to be able to buy him away. Oklahoma State, of course is the alma mater though, so that's different.

Ole Miss is in a really tough position right now. Nutt moved from the only SEC team that had good recruiting inroads into Texas, a complete lock on their home state, and a good pipeline from West Tennessee to Ole Miss. Ole Miss has to deal with Arkansas fighting them in the Memphis market, UT fighting them for all of the Tennessee talent, Alabama surging with Saban and a solid Auburn team keeping most of the Alabama talent and stealing Mississippi recruits as well, and now you have Croom doing a good job of convincing the kids who want to stay in Mississippi of coming to MSU. Throw in LSU, Florida and Georgia pilfering players all over the South and you have a perfect storm of recruiting that does not make life look good for Nutt.

If State has a decent year this year and goes back to a bowl and Ole Miss doesn't make it to a bowl I think you will start to see Ole Miss really fall back of the SEC. You have all the years of Ogeron's failed recruiting classes (looked great on paper but most of the best players didn't make it to the field or didn't stay for long) then you add in the transition year bad class, this next class isn't looking good and one more bad class if the season doesn't go Ole Miss' way and that's a big hole. Nutt will leave the conference at this point.

Rich Brooks already named Joker to replace him when he retires (around 2011 if Rich completes his contract). And not that it matters but Joker will be the SEC's second black head coach.

with assend here. Not bashing at all but if Mississippi does not go bowling this year, what would be the draw to come there? A failed coach run out of his own home state and alma mater and a teamt hat hasn't won a recognized title in over 30 years. That sounds harsh but thats what any opposing coach is telling the recruits. If he can win 5-6 this season and build to 7 the next he may have a shot to follow Cut and be a solid second tier bowl program. If not, he is trouble...Not saying Croom will do much better but this thread is about them.

Just think about it- he's had 3 jobs in 12 months. I have no idea how he'll do at Arkansas, I just think he will end up doing something else. He seems permanently discontent (like some 6packers).

but supposedly his "8 year" contract is the proverbial "I need a contract so my opponents can't use potential instability to kill us in recruiting" ploy. Supposedly the fine print requires him to win a "minimum" of 8 games a year or the buyout is void.

I don't think it's what Tennessee had in mind when they gave him the new contract. If they left themselves on the hook if he goes 8-5, they deserve to have to pay the money or keep him.

I thought it was good (not great but not bad either). We recruited for need and will get as close to a full 25 as we have had in a while. We could possibly also see immediate help at rb and lb. I thought it was a fundamentally sound class but not spectacular by any means.

Not usually. In fact, that's something Nutt said he was excited about when he came to Ole Miss. He said they tried to recruit Memphis while at Arkansas but didn't have a whole lot of success due to the distance. He said it should be much easier for him to recruit Memphis while at Ole Miss. The main competition when we recruit Memphis is usually Tennessee or Memphis. Now that Logan Young is dead, Alabama really has no presence in Memphis anymore.

I don't know about that. The Big 12 South sucks for any team that isn't Texas or OU. At least in the SEC West you always have a fighting chance to go to Atlanta.
