Which former/current MSU coach do you hate the most?

I'm not happy with Polk's tirade and I'm still a little sore over the last 3 years of Jackie, but I don't hate either. I feel Polk should apologize, but I also feel like he should never have been rehired in 2001. Jackie left us in bad shape, but he should have been canned in 2002. LT has to bear some responsibility as well, but I don't hate him either. I was and am not satisfied with their performance late in their tenures, but that's purely professional and they should also get credit for what they did early on for us as well. MSU has finally taken a full step forward with the promotion of Greg Byrne and I'm happy about that.

Maybe not most hated, but he definitely wins when it comes to the hate/tenure ratio.

I picked Polk simply because of the dick move he pulled. The Kang may have left the football program in worse shape than Polk, but he didn't try to pick his successor or talk trash about the decision to hire Croom.

at least he never tried to actively sabotage us like Polk did. I don't understand the hate for Pat McMahon. All he did was take us to 1 CWS, 2 super regionals, and 1 regional final while he was here. He also left the program in great shape for Polk to take over (we had more players drafted in the 2003 draft than any other year in our history). I've always been pissed at him for leaving us for Florida, but I also realize that there was a significant portion of the fanbase that wanted him out the door so Polk could return. I'm not so sure he wasn't pushed out as much as he left.

That man brought more success to MSU football than any other coach in YOUR FATHER's lifetime. Come on...

although I certainly don't "hate" any of them. I do appreciate the things Polk did for our baseball program in his earlier years but in his later years I came to really dislike him personally because of his overinflated ego and arrogance AND his seeming disdain for the average MSU baseball fan. One of the first and biggest signs he gave me to let me know he could care less what was in the interest of MSU baseball fans was leading the effort to eliminate the SEC Saturday DH which had always allowed MSU fans far and wide to come enjoy a full day at Dudy Noble. Due to knowing his personality, I was not shocked by his actions after Cohen's hire. Jackie, on the other hand, while certainly having his faults, was never disrespectful to the MSU fans or MSU administration. Even though his last few years were rough, I will always think highly of him because he was the first coach in my lifetime to make MSU fans truly believe we could be consistent winners in football.

during a broadcast of a Big12 game a few years ago regarding the shape of the program (they were showing halftime "highlights" including us taking one on the chin), with the incredible irony being lost on the other broadcasters. That being said, and despite what I might have spewed in a chat session, I don't hate any former coaches, even if I was pissed at the states of disarray they left us in.

He was disloyal AND came back and tried to steal our recruits after he had left for Nebraska! He got Brandon Jackson, but that was about it. He also intentionally tried to recruit the same kids we were recruiting. He is a literal "piece of ****!"

seriously, look it up.

So, that is the former coach I hate the most. I used to be all right with LT until he allowed JWS to stay WAY too long and brought back Polk. I'm writing LT in. If LT had some balls, or if the one he had was a decent size, he would have fired JWS and we wouldn't have had to go through six losing seasons and have a well established football program, and if he had not brought back Polk, we probably would have someone that could have gotten us to the SEC Tournament consistently at the very least.

I actually thought for the most part Jackie did a lot of "biting-of-the-tongue" during the time when Sly first came in because Croom REALLY took a lot of digs at the state of the program he came into. Croom has ALWAYS taken every opportunity to convey how horrible the program was when he came in. I'm sure most of it was true, but I feel it has at times been exaggerated by Sly so as to keep fan expectations on him and his performance down as much as possible. When you get only 9 wins in your first 3 seasons you certainly need all the excuses available to you to alleviate criticism from the fans. But I doubt it was easy for a guy like Sherrill, who has a lot of pride, to sit there and listen to some of the stuff being said and to just let it go without responding.

But he's the one person most responsible for the 6 years of hell we went through from 2001-2006. He's the best and the worst football coach we've ever had.

A 3-year public investigation (which turned up very little), followed by actual probation was like being on probation twice in a row. It murdered our recruiting efforts.

It was something like how down and out of talent the program was (it's not like he was making stuff up), it just seemed odd for him to be bringing it up like that.

and not fallen into anywhere near the state that Jackie let our program get to. Hell, WE'VE been investigated and gone on probation before without that happening. The NCAA investigation obviously didn't help matters, but it's largely a scapegoat for Jackie quitting about 3 years before he retired. And no, I'll NEVER forgive him for quitting on us like that.

Because if he had never left we might have hung an NCAA champsionship banner in basketball by now........at least that's the way some folks make it out.

Ron Cooper gets strong consideration for me as well.

In fact, most-hated assistant coach would lead to a nice discussion

Not to mention the rumors of impending doom that were being spread by the other 11 SEC schools. Its hard to bring in good players and coaches when being faced with that constantly...

These investigations are like the legal system. They take for damn ever. And it's not like the program held on for the first two years and then went to hell. It pretty much went to hell before the investigations ever got started. Granted, it stayed there through the entire investigation and for Croom's first 3 years. But if you look at the time line, the program had already self-destructed before the investigation was ever started. So don't give me any more of that **** about the NCAA causing our downfall, because that's not just a lie, it's a damned lie.

And ... he was, unbelievably, upset that he did not get offerred the MSU head coaching job after Sherrill. This coming from the coach who posted a whopping .353 winning percentage at Oklahoma!

Though we probably wouldn't of ended up with them when it was all said and done, he also recruited Marlon Lucky and N Suh (In case anyone has forgotten, Suh's sister was on athletic scholarship at MSU and I believe Lucky had family close by). We were in really good standings with both of them until they started mentioning Blake's name in interviews. He was spilling lies about the NCAA investigation to our recruits and using the pending sanctions every chance he had to recruit against us. John Blake is the biggest piece of **** ever.
