Who does MSU drop or shift in 2024 - 2026 football scheduling?

It'll be interesting to see what happens. I suspect we'll keep the 3 road games (2 to fulfil the P5 mandate which I don't think will go away and 1 to fulfil the back end of a 2-for-1 contract). It's possibly the SEC may go ahead and ban I-AA games, so the decision may be made for us.

USM would make the most sense to cancel. I could see the SEC dishing out $$ to help since all 14 teams will likely have to deal with this.

After reading your reply, I think you're right. What I didn't consider is we'll have 5 SEC road games every other year. I think the days of going on the road to a non-P5 school are over. The SEC will probably reimburse us to buy out the USM road game.

I am betting that any deal after 24 will have some clause allowing for an out should conference scheduling change. The SEC's current schedule was going to expire in 2024 as is, and most knew that there was a chance it could go to 9 games, etc.

That makes a lot of sense.

Would you rather buy out the road game and find another school to play at home or pay even more money to convert the non-P5 road games to home games?

The first four columns are the G5 road games that are scheduled. We'd have two home games to shift in 2024 & 2026.

2025 (also likely shifted)

2027

2028

2030

2024 & 2026

Shift home games

Get rid of Utah State, Southern and Troy. Easy.

But I was REALLY hoping they'd kill that P5 OOC requirement. I'd cancel that one first. Has there been any talk about that?

Playing at Memphis is a different ballgame than the other two sites, IMO

NOT HAPPY! 9 SEC games with 5 on the road every other year is going to suck for us.
Definitely gonna be tougher for us to reach that .500 SEC Goal that always has been a good goal based on where our program is. Now just gonna be winners and losers. And I agree, we need to get a lesser OOC team on the schedule now that change is on the horizon.

If they lose the P5 OOC requirement for bowls, you ABSOLUTELY drop ASU and WSU. Texas and Oklahoma coming to DWS will more than make up for losing a mid-tier p5 team from the schedule.

Not to be a nerd, but w/ 9 SEC games, .500 is impossible now.

I expect the SEC will keep its 1 P5 noncon standard. So 10 games against the P5.

For no objective reason, I hope we keep the Arizona State series. That could be a fun trip.

ETA: As far as G5/FCS games, I think we should schedule USM, Jackson State, Alcorn State, and MVSU as much as possible. I know that’s controversial, but we should keep that money in the state as much as possible. I’m good with home-and-home (or 2 for 1) with USM. And bring the in-state FCS teams to Starkville for their payday.

No 1-AA games; who will Ole Miss and Bama play?
The Tide are actually in decent shape schedule-wise.

They won't have many changes to make especially they don't play G5 schools on the road. (link)

Ole Miss, on the other hand, has adjustments to make since they're scheduled to play at three G5 schools beginning in 2024 and also have four non-conference opponents scheduled in four seasons. (link)

I don't think we will drop USM. That would mean they had come here twice and no return. It might be we reschedule it but not drop it all together.

It’s going to be a rescheduling nightmare. One solution would be 1-7-7 for 2025 and 2025 and 3-6-6 for 2026 and beyond.

Sankey will drop the Power 5 non-conference requirement. There would be significant ramifications in G5 and FCS if they lost the paychecks from those extra games. He likes the image of supporting those leagues and giving the teams like us some easier wins.
