I noticed the cost of buying checks cost $35 for 40 checks. I think last time I bought checks, paid maybe $12 a couple years back.

Your bank or credit union should offer the service of bill pay with no fee associated.I do for City of Columbia water -- no way to pay online without a "convenience fee"
You are correct, they will take payments at First Citizens. I'm not often by there, but that's a good noteYour bank or credit union should offer the service of bill pay with no fee associated.

Good dad right thereI pay for my kids personal lessons
Same here, church and occasionally a water bill because the city site is down for maintenance about as much as it is up.Church and any extra principal payments to mortgage- all else is electronically sent.
My bank still gives free checks - to old people - still only church, yard man

If it's "as old as you feel," I guess I'm "old."How old is old?![]()

Definitely still write them. But never outside of home services (tree cutting, electricians, etc.). But they're still necessary I guess. I don't know why some of these companies don't go digital, but it almost feels like no one is tracking checks anymore - so it's like paying cash under the table.
Or how bout the same, but she tries to pay with an EBT card, which doesn't cover everything, then goes through 2-3 credit cards to find one that works to pay the difference.I know this is off track for this thread but it reminded me of this. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Waiting patiently behind, (usually a woman) at a store like Walmart or grocery store while they ring up a whole shopping cart full of groceries. Then once the last item has been rung and they give her the total, only then does she begin to look in her purse for her checkbook. Then takes about 5 minutes to write the check. I know I should be more patient but this has happened to me a couple of times and it absolutely drives me crazy. How hard is it to put the date, the name of the store and your signature on the check while it's being rung up then fill in the amount when it's time? Sorry, rant over.
That would take forethought and planning, which is sorely lacking today. People did don't care and will block the grocery store aisle and not offer to let you pass, usually with two kids running up and down the aisle or screaming because they can't have something.I know this is off track for this thread but it reminded me of this. Yep. kinda got under my skin a little to, so I put a stop to that by using the self checkout with my debit card. No one check writing there.I know this is off track for this thread but it reminded me of this. Has anyone else ever experienced this? I was in Publix last week in the 10 items or less line and the woman in front of me had at least 30 items. Then she forgot her EBT card and went to the car to get it. Smoke was coming out of my ears.I know this is off track for this thread but it reminded me of this. Has anyone else ever experienced this? The people who need EBT may be the type of people who are not as organized as others. My generalization. I'm ok with food stamps as long as the person needs it from a job loss.. Making things meet while working, then that's a different subject... We all have to make things meet...The people who need EBT may be the type of people who are not as organized as others. My generalization. FWIW.
