I still say Weatherford, although I might be biased. They're both badass, I think Bittle is probably getting a little tired right now. If we had been better this year, and Weatherford hadn't been hurt, I think he would be mentioned a lot more with Fields and Bittle.

resilient with regard to his needed rest between outings and it appears he can go longer stints and still be effective.

His numbers in every category are better per inning pitched. And while it's true that part of the reason for him having so few innings pitched was injury, the biggest reason was there's not much work for a closer when your team sucks so bad. Still, he managed to put up 7 saves and 3 wins (compared to Bittle's 7 saves and 6 wins) this season. Also, Weatherford was huge in getting us to the CWS last year. He pitched 5.2 scoreless innings in 4 regional/super appearances (appeared back to back twice) and had 2 saves. For all Bittle's success this year (and he's been great), if UM had a Weatherford in the bullpen last year, they'd have won the first game against Arizona State last year.

Weatherford averages under 2 innings per outing, like a true closer.

Bittle averages over 2 innings per outing.

If you need a guy to go 3 or 4 and shut the team down, its Bittle every time.

I think both are equal in the 3-5 out closer role.

Neither is better than the other, as both have their positives, but also differences.</p>

the sheep coming out in me, if you're looking for a guy to close, you go to weatherford hands down. unless he's been worked a lot in previous games and tired, the guys not gonna be touched. on the other hand, i've seen bittle come in before and get worked (in the past). however, like i stated above, if you want a guy to go more than 2 innings, it's bittle every time. that's just what i believe, take it or leave it and i don't feel like arguing with some ole miss clowns on this so i'll leave it at that.

I think the game was tied when he entered, so technically it wasn't a blown save. He pitched poorly though.
