Why did we not run the ball against LA Tech?

I know that we have this great Gulf Coast Offense and all, but come on it's La Tech...
All we had to do was lineup and play Croom Ball, but know Woody and Croom want to air it out, nice....
Let AD get his 30 carries a game...

Wes has no arm strength and can not complete a pass beyond 20 yards...
We need to run the damn spread or even the wishbone...

This is going to be a long season if we have to count on Carroll to win games for us.
All we need to do is just play like last year, I know our offense sucks, but Crooms and Woody must think otherwise...

Our best bet is to chew up the clock and keep the opposing offense off the field as long as possible. We have to pass every 3 or 4 plays to keep the defense honest, but other than that, we need to play power football.

Chad Bumphis and other WR recruits, I guess you have to at least pretend like you have pass plays in your play pamphlet.

is that it doesn't have to be all or nothing. You can feed AD the ball 25 times, give Robert Elliot a few touches and screen passes, and throw it 25 times. All in the same game. You find a balance. A mix. You don't have to say "hey everybody we're about to run it down your throat" or "look we're in the spread is everybody freakin happy now."

I watched about twenty teams do it this weekend, including USC who didn't have to and UCLA who absolutely had to. Don't know why we can come close to striking a balance.

Oh wait, yeah I do.

like Auburn and LSU that we will HAVE to pass when they stick 7 and 8 in the box. They will be too good for us to run on them when they sell out for the run. However, in no way should that have been the case against LT. We should have been able to effectively run against them no matter what scheme they were playing. We just aren't effective enough with the personnel we currently have to beat much of anyone passing the ball more than we throw it. Yea, we can make a play every now and then out of the passing game but we aren't consistent enough to keep moving the chains with it. We have too many QB misreads, too many dropped balls, and our OL (especially the other night) is not good enough in pass protection. In fact, in the second half, we only got inside LT's 40 once the whole half only to throw the INT which ended up giving them the ball pretty deep in our territory after the late hit was tacked on.

I am all for a balanced offense, but our dumbass coaches decided that we will air it out against LA Tech.
My point is that we did not have to do that, all we had to do was lineup and let AD go to work.
Sure throw a pass in there every now and then.
There was no reason to call more pass plays than running plays against La Tech..............

This is going to be a long season...
I just hope we can win six games now...

before the LT game. Now I'm just hoping against hope for 5. I'm thinking SE Louisiana, Vandy, MTSU and somehow pulling out 2 of 3 between KY, Arky and Ole Miss. Given how we played the other night and losing Chaney for the season, I'm thinking 5 wins would be a pretty nice accomplishment for this team.

7 in the box is a standard defense. LA Tech was playing 8 in the box a lot of the time and they even had enough balls to put both safeties in the box some of the time. Unless you're USC, you can't run the ball against a 9-man front. But unfortunately, any pass that has to travel more than 15 yards in the air is gonna be a problem for Carroll.

to defend the spread. Of course with JLD it was common fare for us with the free safety and the 2 Dog safeties.

put 9 in the box the other night. It was 8 most of the time, sometimes just the more standard 7. If we can't run against a team like LT even with 8 in the box then we are hosed because we can't beat people primarily passing the ball right now.
