Why do I get nauseated when I think of Raffo as head coach?

There has been no other coaching search at MSU that has affected me like this one.

You and most everyone else knows there are at least 50 other coaches out there that are more qualified than Raffo. At least 40 of these 50 would give their left nut to coach here, and we are still gonna find a way to <17> it up. If Cohen doesnt take the job because he doesnt want to hurt Polk's or Raffo's feelings, then so be it....But do not just "settle" for Raffo in that case. There will still be plenty of other HEAD coaches out there that would love to come here.

I know there have been a couple of posts on Gene's Page to that effect, but I really don't consider that to be a reliable source. Even if Gene posted it, I don't think it's a reliable source. Byrne isn't going to tell someone like Gene what's going on with the search. Hell, Gene didn't even list Pat Casey in a list of 15 potential candidates and we know for a fact Byrne called him about the job.

GB needs to look at the one thing Raffo has been a major part of and that has been recruiting. You have got to say we have been gettnig our butts kicked the past 5+ years in recruiting by Ole Miss and Southern Miss and Raffo has been a major part of our recruiting efforts. Why would you think he would make a good head coach when he has failed at being a good assistan t coach .This is the one sport where we can go out and find a proven winner (unlike football and basketball) and not have to settle for an up and coming assistant or a coach at a smaller program.

here we are at MSU where we don't even have a top 50 class this year and there is an MSU guy at freakin' Kentucky bringing in a top 10 rated class. But of course I know, we do things the right way at MSU. I'm sure the guys we have coming in are much classier than the guys Cohen has coming in at Kentucky.

we have been getting our butts kicked by the enitre SEC, and you could make a strong arguement that Meridian CC has been kicking our butt as well.

that's been thoroughly discussed for months on end, but you could say the true reason that i am genuinely afraid has existed long before raffo was a coach. it's just that the powers that be are so stipud, clueless, and nutless, and they have been for many years. i have no faith that anyone can make a good, solid decision, even when it's so blatantly obvious. there's a part of me that thinks byrne will change things and start his tenure by selecting a good coach, but there's been too many disappointments over the years that i just can't help but get a knot in my stomach every time i access this site.

there's been a lot of dumb decisions made and not made up there, but this could very well be #1 for me. i feel like i'm either going to be very excited or just stop caring all together.

please, greg byrne. have a pair.

.....settles for CHEAP AND EASY. It's the MSU way. It's why we usually suck at sports.

is making me as nervous as Nate Newton pulling up to a road block.

I know it would be just the "MSU" way of doing things to give Raffo a shot , but dear Lord I hope We do something different this time and actually do something right.

someone a shot to succeed. Hell, Bear Bryant had to start somewhere. It's not so much the first year thing that makes me not want to hire him, it's the results of his coaching. Look at our hitting stats the past several years, they are at or near the bottom of the league in every category. You don't just "happen" to lead the league in double plays in a season by a landslide. Our HR production has been pathetic for some time now. With me this isn't about inexperience, it's simply the fact that his dept. of the team isn't producing. Remember when Turtle Thomas was being mentioned all the time for head coaching jobs while at LSU? It was because they knocked the cover off the ball year in and year out. He didn't have head coaching exp. either but the difference was he produced. Raffo never has in my opinion.

is Cohen's if he wants it and I think he does. It's a ticklish situation and MSU administration is being careful with the way it is handled so as to offend as few as possible. Regardless , there will be those offended but it happens.

If Raffo gets the job nothing will change..We will continue to get out-recruited for some of the best players around the state either because we started recruiting them too late or didn't recruit them at all (Seth Smith, Stephen Head, Brian Pettway, Zach Cozart, Logan Power, Justin Henry, Jordan Henry). We need someone who will actually put out effort to get some of these players..

are sheep. And by nature of being a sheep they will support whoever we hire, no matter what. Therefore, hiring Cohen, or really anyone else won't split the fanbase like some think it might.

I guarantee you that 90% of Raffo's "supporter's" are sheep that think they are doing what "they are supposed to do". They'll drop him and Polk like a hot potato if someone else is hired.
