Why don’t reporters ever ask hard questions at the press conferences?

One of the questions I would’ve asked would be “The offensive line obviously struggled in last season’s opener against North Carolina, and that foreshadowed struggles they would have all season. Is there a reason to believe the line struggles against ODU aren’t foreshadowing struggles that will last this whole season?”

I genuinely want to know. I am hoping beyond hope that he has some idea of what we can do to mitigate the poor offensive line play or improve it.

I never had the pleasure of playing football, but I know many here did. Some have even coached it. Short of getting new personnel or coaches what can be done in the season to get better line play?

What’s even the point if they’re just asking garden variety questions
I've always wondered about this. I think journalism in the last 45 years or so has changed as a profession in general.
Truth has been replaced by agenda and opinion.
I watch teams in different sports across the world get destroyed and am amazed by the softball questions like "what are the positives the players can take away?"
These kinds of questions drive me crazy.
Just my opinion I guess.

Haha, that’s the perfect example of a fluff question that doesn’t reveal any information.

I think it’s possible to ask probing questions without being a jerk about it. Just ask questions the fans actually want to know the answers to. Like we’re having a little déjà vu with the offensive line compared to the North Carolina game last year, can you talk about that?

Before the guy he was talking to there, we had Jake Penland and Herman Helms - real pains in the @SS in the print medium, way before the team-focused internet sites, ESPN, podcasts, or social media. Pressure and exposure from all of these outlets mounts up cumulatively, I'm thinking, and wears on people.

I remember FGF going full momma bear against The State when Morris criticized the football team. Reporters don't want to ruffle any feathers or upset the fans because they don't want to hear the calls for boycotts and other outrage from the sunshine pumper fans.

Deion literally had a reporter banned from asking questions because he thought he was being attacked, so I'm assuming reporters are trying to avoid that at this point. I'd hope Beamer would be a little more level headed in a response, but who knows?

Shane said the O-line played well it was just the perimeter blocking. He also said on the Shane Beamer show that Dylan Stewart had some stuff to clean up. I really think that he is out of touch with reality!
