They currently have more SEC wins than we do ha. Why over think things? Evidently he’s a really good head coach and pitching coach everywhere he’s been. Hiring good coaches is not rocket science.
This statement is 100% true. The coach ahead of Lemonis took Indiana to the CWS in 2013 and was hired away by Arizona State in 2015. Lemonis made the regionals the 3 years he was in Indiana before we hired him away to not even make our own conference tournament for 2 years.I remember reading Indiana's message boards when we hire the guy, and they were not upset one bit. They said he got their baseball team to the regionals using the talent the previous coach brought in. I thought it was just sour apples, but it is starting to look like they were correct and not sour apples.
At this point, it would certainly be an upgrade. Another larger school will snatch him from USM soon anyway. The only uncertainty I see with Oz is that he is still playing with a good bit of talent that was recruited by the previous Coach, but Oz was also a part of that staff. The guy can coach, especially pitchers. We can probably do better, but he would be towards the top of my list.We will have to create an opening first. I dont see how it wouldn't be an upgrade tho.
He doesn't meet the prerequisite of coaching for OUThey currently have more SEC wins than we do ha. Why over think things? Evidently he’s a really good head coach and pitching coach everywhere he’s been. Hiring good coaches is not rocket science.
Our track record since we hired Cohen away from Kentucky says we can’t!I think we can do better than a guy with 1 season as HC in the Sunbelt.
You can look at the body of work since the CWS and still disagree?Overall, and I mean the entire body of work, do you guys truly feel like Lemonis was a bad hire? I think he’s clearly shown he can’t sustain things or put together a complete roster but seriously he won a national title. I don’t care that he did with largely an inherited roster. I’m not debating it’s time to move on but you guys talk like Lemonis was a failed hire and I will always disagree with that.
Let's revisit this line of thought after these next two weekends of SEC baseball. We should be able to get some clarity after that.Yeah, lemon won our only national title in history in year 3 of his tenure, so clearly he had nothing to do with those player’s development, he’s been straight trash. Wish we’d have never hired him. But, that’s baseball.
We should, but our track record lately says that you are wrong.I think we can do better than a guy with 1 season as HC in the Sunbelt.
We could do a LOT worse than Lane Burroughs. If we move on from Lemonis this year, and I'm not convinced we will unless it turns into a complete train wreck.
Having said that, I'll be shocked if our current administration would hire someone other than Lane Burroughs, Butch Thompson, or Nick Mingione. I don't know that Butch or Nick would leave their current schools for our job. I'd put my money on Lane. If it were a current assistant coach, it wouldn't shock me to see Selmon and Keenum to target Will Coggin. Let me be clear I'm not advocating that State hires one of these guys. It's just more so that my opinion is we'll go for a familiar-ish lazy hire.
The only major National Champion in the three major sports on campus...You can look at the body of work since the CWS and still disagree?
At the very least the program would get back to being a hard nosed and tough which has been severely lacking the last couple of years. We could do a LOT worse than Lane Burroughs.
I can look at his body of work since the CWS and say we need to change coaches. Now you answer my question… do you consider the entire Lemonis tenure a failure? You can look at the body of work since the CWS and still disagree?

Haha understood… although Lemonis probably is very representative of the average SPS posterI choose not to look at Lemonis’s body
What I believe is that the 2021 roster won the CWS in spite of Lemonis running the ship, much like I believe the same about the 2013 roster making the run to the finals for Cohen. Both of those teams were loaded and got hot at the right time.Overall, and I mean the entire body of work, do you guys truly feel like Lemonis was a bad hire? Unless we host or win a regional, I'm gonna say yes. That would be 4 seasons out of 6 not hosting or winning a regional, and 2 not even making the tournament.I can look at his body of work since the CWS and say we need to change coaches. Now you answer my question… do you consider the entire Lemonis tenure a failure?
Only we could lose a really good SEC baseball coach who was an alumnus of the program because he decided he wanted to be an AD.Our track record since we hired Cohen away from Kentucky says we can’t!
Since the CWS, yes. A miserable failure. Maybe even as far as the CWS a fluke like Coastal Carolina winning it all.I can look at his body of work since the CWS and say we need to change coaches. Now you answer my question… do you consider the entire Lemonis tenure a failure?
I don’t think it was a fluke. That was a roster that had been building toward a title for a long time. 3 straight trips to the CWS, 2 straight 50 win season. If not for Covid, I think it’s very likely that is 4 straight trips to Omaha and 3 straight 50 win seasons. But just sticking to facts, the team was knocking on the door of a title for essentially 4 straight years. The title was not a fluke. I fully agree that we need a change, Lemonis clearly can’t build a roster on his own. But I’ll never understand why some of you guys are so hell bent on diminishing the good that Lemonis did do.Since the CWS, yes. A miserable failure. That was not a fluke. Neither was Cohens run to the title series in 2013. Those teams were loaded.I don’t think it was a fluke. I misspoke. I merely meant the CWS wasn’t due to Lemonis. He was in the right spot at the right time like Forest Gump. Given what he’s done since, he’s proven this.I don’t think it was a fluke. I don’t disagree with that. It would have taken sloppy Joe level incompetence to not at least take those teams to Omaha.I misspoke. I merely meant the CWS wasn’t due to Lemonis. He was in the right spot at the right time like Forest Gump. Given what he’s done since, he’s proven this.
