Why is Oklahoma State so bad?

Coach is gone. My understanding is his recruiting dipped pretty badly and fans really want the coach gone. Not sure if he has a Stoops sized buyout or not.

Gundy has been there too long and things have gotten stale. It seems like they were a top 25 team every year until last year. It might do him some good to go to a smaller school like Boise St or Fresno St and build his resume back.

Simple. He refuses to buy into the modern landscape of NIL and portal shopping. He is too old school and stubborn. Just like Dabo, but unlike Gundy, Dabo woke up and realized he can't compete just on top recruiting classes year in and year out. With simply recruits, winning would come every 3 years or so after recruits reached their potential. Teams that don't shop the portal are simply getting left behind, Gundy is now there full scale. Doubt he makes it until thru the weekend.

"Bad" is an understatement, I would say pathetic. I felt sorry for their fans who apparently came out in full force excited and vocal only to watch a team that couldn't tackle, couldn't block, couldn't complete a pass, and looked so clueless it's a wonder they were able to find the locker room.

The game has passed him by. It’s a new era with NIL and Portal and he’s just not a coach that can manage it. There’s no reason to lose to Tulsa. They need a fresh start with someone that can run that up tempo offense he used to have. There’s plenty of coaches out there that can do this and being in the Big 12, this should be doable.

They need to find some big money donors too, I have to think there are some out there for the program.

With T. Boone Pickens gone, finding a donor to backfill Pickens deep pockets is going to be hard.

Tulsa dominated the line of scrimmage. The game wasn’t as close as the score indicates.

Only so much money in Oklahoma, it's gonna happen to a lot of teams. Sooner or later, the rich are gonna get richer.

I almost selected Tulsa in the SUP contest for this week and I’m kicking myself for not doing so.

He went from 9-3 2nd in the Big 12 2 years ago.
To 0-9, 16th in the Big 12 last year.
That's a monumental collapse.
Usually caused by real behind the scene issues
That's not NIL or "failing to adapt"
Those cause a slide over a couple years.

It was already in collapse behind the scenes, Gundy took a million dollar pay cut and restructured his contract at the end of the year. On the other side, he hasn’t been effective with the transfer portal and their NIL is pretty limited. I’d say both had to play a part with the transfer portal making it more difficult in these situations than it used to.

OSU is a perfect example of modern game with portal, NIL.

Overall, I think both are good in that the playing field evens out. More middle and lower tier programs will be able to have good seasons, beat bigger opponents.

However, that means for every IU, Syracuse, Army, North Texas, Vandy, SC, James Madison, G-tech, etc... there's going to be an OSU, Washington St, FSU (last season), Clemson...Nortre Dame who might still be solid this year, but I'm not sure they're getting as good of a sniff at the title game.

I mean North Texas used to be a school UK would schedule for a dub. Now they're blowing out Washington state and beating a really good Army team that just sniffed the play offs. Might call and offer CMS a million to go down to Texas for a warmup.

The top 25 will change more often than years past when coaches/programs could hoard talent and go on 5-year runs. Transfer rule and no money on the table kept great individual talent and good recruiting classes in in a handful of places.

Just as easily as all the above-mentioned teams are having the good or bad years that they're having now. It could flip flop next season, or the season after.

And all that said, the same teams are gonna win the national title. Same as always.

Oklahoma State has big oil donors plus most of the large land holdings and ranchs are owned by Okla State alumni. OSU is considered the ag school. If Texas Tech can find 28 million so can OSU.

That wasn’t the point. Can they get donors on board with NIL, yes, have they? No. Gundy hasn’t embraced either NIL or Portal, which is his downfall, much like it’s been Dabo’s. It’s just a new generation of how to run a college football program and that’s not in his wheelhouse.

We’re barely a few seasons in to the new landscape of CFB that inevitably will continue to evolve.

Expanded schedules, expanded postseason will result in more variety.

Throw in the movement to reduce OOC puffs with bigger more competitive games and things will start to look a little different.

Texas, Miami, Penn St, OU, Oregon could all very easily win the title this year. How many titles do they have collectively in relatively recent history?

Texas Tech, IU, Ole Miss, and Georgia freaking tech could all end up in playoffs..

Gundy has 8 10 plus win seasons there. He's been there like 20 years though. I couldn't imagine working at the same place 20 years. Probably getting time for a split.
Sounds like someone that has worked somewhere for 13+ years..... Stoops doesn't have that many winning seasons but things are kind of really stale around here....

Didn’t the money man pass away also? Wonder if they are still getting any of that money?
Yes, Boone Pickens did pass away. There was talk that a lot of the alumni wanted Gundy gone several yrs ago, but Pickens loved him.

he hasn't produced an NFL QB since 2018, WR's in a while also. They was known for big time offenses, even a few stud RBs.

Gundy just didnt give a crap anymore with the new NIL system. I think Dabo may he the same way. They would rather be fired and get their massive buyouts than step down. Mark Stoops may be the same story.
