Aaron brooks 1st at 197? Did all of the 197 NCAA championship wrestlers graduate? Think this is an overreach.

Do you actually watch wrestling? Brooks is a 3x champion and has less than 5 losses in his career and beat an Olympic bronze medalist for the national title two years ago. David Taylor takes him abroad as a training partner. Him being ranked first at 197 is a no brainer.

It is one heck of a resume. And he still might be only the 2nd best wrestler on the team.

If I had to pick just 1 PSU champ, my pick would be Brooks. He gave David Taylor his toughest matches going into senior Worlds.

Do you actually know wrestling? Max Dean former national champ was ranked 9th this year in the tourney. Moving up a weight especially to 197 is a whole different ball game where height and Wright play a factor. So how many from last year 197 top 8 return still stands as my question.

The 2023 NCAA final, at 197, was between Nick Bonaccorsi (Pitt) and Tanner Sloan (SDSU). Bonaccorsi won the championship. Sloan was a bit of a surprise at NCAAs, as he was seeded #7 and upset #2 seed Bernie Truax (now at PSU), and #3 seed Rocky Elam (Mizzou) in the quarters and the semis, respectively.

Bonaccorsi's eligibility is up. Sloan is back, and he's ranked 3rd by WIN Mag. Trent Hildlay (NC State) is ranked #2 by WIN Mag.. At last year's NCAAs, he was seeded #2 at 184 (the weight that Brooks was seeded #1, and won), but finished 4th. Rocky Elam is back. He was seeded #3 at 197 at last year's NCAAs, and finished 3rd. Stephen Buchanan redshirted last year, and is ranked #5 by WIN Mag. Jacob Cardenas (Cornell) was ranked #10 at last year's NCAAs, and finished 8th. He's ranked #6 by WIN Mag. Michael Beard (Lehigh) was seeded #5 at last year's NCAAs, and DNP. He's seeded 7th by WIN Mag. Silas Allred (Nebraska) was seeded 8th at last year's NCAAs, and DNP. He's seeded 8th by WIN Mag. Jaxson Smith (Maryland) was seeded 11th at last year's NCAAs, and DNP. He's seeded 9th by WIN Mag. Luke Surber (Ok. St.) was seeded 15th at last year's NCAA, and DNP. He's seeded 10th by WIN Mag.

Yes I actually watch most of the matches.Dean had issues last year because of his lack of length. Brooks is a long wrestler and won't have the same issues.

Brooks sure elevated his performance in the Big 10s and the national championship. He ended the season wrestling at a super high level-as good as any of the other champs. I would not put anything past him if he stays healthy and wrestles like he did at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see what weights Cael has all the 10 wrestlers at this year! Great team again.

Thanks for the breakdown of returning and graduated wrestlers.
max Dean was 5-10 and I’m assuming brooks is taller. Can’t find it anywhere. Allred showed at 197 why height plays a role at 197 and really frustrated Dean by being able to stay out of his reach. Nick from pitt graduated which is great and looks like a couple of others moved up while traux transferred to psu. Intersting that brooks is moving up and traux moving down. Perhaps more natural for traux and brooks putting more weight up for olympic run.
Thanks for the breakdown Tom. As always you are on top of your game. Or should I say match,

Just a slight correction to the 2023 184 seedings. Brooks was not a #1:
#1-Parker Keckeisen
#2-Trent Hidlay
#3-Aaron Brooks
