At 10:59am on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, we welcome the Winter Solstice, which is considered to be the astronomical start of winter. During the Winter Solstice, the Northern Hemisphere will have just 8 hours and 46 minutes of daylight, resulting in the longest night. After today, we will slowly regain sunlight until we reach the longest day on the Summer Solstice.

So Glov: Can you tell me (without consulting our friend Google) when the Vernal Equinox occurs? Hint: it occurs twice each calendar year.

And no, I could not do it without consulting my friend Google.

Twice? One is the Vernal Equinox. The other is the Autumnal Equinox

Well, given that there are two Hemispheres, and that the path of the sun takes it over the Equator twice per year, perhaps it would be more accurate to say that there are two Vernal Equinoxes (one for each Hemisphere) and two Autumnal Equinoxes (also one for each hemisphere)?

I'm sure it's just a coincidence, but when I went out this morning to get the garbage cans it was much colder than yesterday.
