It’s big time college football. They don’t come cheap anymore. It’s dicey no matter who the coach is.

Meh. It's the cost of doing business. The fact that Saban is really close per game shows that Beamer is probably paid approximately what he's worth.

But Saban's price-per-win can still go down this year . . . significantly.

I don't really disagree with your premise, but I think we all know that wins 6-12 are worth a lot more than the first 5. And everything above 12 is on a whole 'nother level.

So he made that much to beat Furman, Jacksonville St. And Vandy. I would have done that for $150......per game! I'm not that cheap

Really?!!! He's worth over a million dollars per win to win 5 games? I would love to work for you.

If you’re looking solely at win-based return on investment, Beamer is about average for the conference this year. Does everyone want "above average?" Of course. I would submit though that Beamer is most likely above average in the conference over the course of the last three years. One year doesn't tell an accurate story as it relates to his ROI. Take last year for example - he was worth $343k per win ($2.75M by 8 games). Year one - $393k per win.

Put it all together and I think so far he is outperforming most of his contemporaries over his tenure at USC as his cost per win to USC is $575,000 over three years. Again, if we're only looking at win-based ROI.

What other ROI should anyone be looking at in a head coach? Based on your numbers, he was a much better investment in years one and two and we have grossly overpaid for the wins in year three. Giving Beamer a big raise was a stupid decision. Last season was a mirage of success based on two huge upsets. The rest of the season was the reality of football under Beamer. I can assure you, no other program was going to come hire him away after last season so we poured money into a underperforming asset and greatly increased our overhead in the product.

They aren’t my numbers, they’re the numbers. And they stack up nicely over the last three years. Beamer’s value is well above average as an SEC head coach on a win-to-salary basis during his time at USC. It can’t be argued.

if you don’t like coaches getting paid market value, then I can’t help you there. But maybe I would like you working for me if you’re willing to make less than 90% of similarly situated workers.
