Does anyone here see him taking a snap in the regular season for Green Bay? I just don't see the Green Bay coaches or management backtracking after all their public comments and letting him back both on the team and as the starter. And there is no way in hell he rides the pine for $13 million in Green Bay.

It's going to be a contest to see who caves in first. Favre doesn't want to sit on the sidelines and the Packers don't want to play him or pay him to sit on the bench. Will he cave first and approve a trade to a team the Packers want him to go to or will the Packers cave first and release him to sign with Minnesota or Green Bay. Of course, it's questionable that the Vikings could sign him anyway if the NFL upholds the tampering charges (and I think the phone records at the very least give some support to those charges).</p>

Sadly, I don't see him continuing to be a Packer. Both of them are wrong, but I think that the way the Packers have treated him is despicable. I'm a Cowboys fan, but I couldn't imagine any team treating their legend and the face of their franchise like the Packers have treated him...

Nothing wrong at all with him carrying on illegal discussions of playing for the Vikings while at the same time re-affirming to the Packers that he was still retiring so they would commit his $12,000,000 salary to other players this year.

</p>Were they not going to pay him between 15 and 20 million to just stay retired? 13 million is a much better sunk cost than 20 million. At the rate the whole fiasco is going, I wouldn't be surprised to see him ride the pine some. But you know the Packer fans will revolt if this happens.

I for one wish he would make up his mind and stick to it. I'll say this whole damn thing has gotten ridiculous. I'm retiring.... no i'm not retiring.. I'm retiring this time for good... no I'm not.. I'm coming back... I'm retiring and this time it's final... stop asking it's still final... still thinking... no I'm not retired anymore.....

No way he is a Packer. And no way is he doing this to ride the pine for the Packers.

I guess this will come down to who can put the better trade together- the Vikings or the Bears. Personally I hope it's the Bears, but I don't know if that will happen or not. For some reason the Bears keep thinking that they can win without a QB and that Rex Grossman is worth a darn.

The Green Bay Packers are through negotiating with quarterback Brett Favre on a marketing deal and they are anticipating him reporting for training camp Monday and being on the field as soon as he passes his physical, a Packers source said.

Another source close to the club, said that the Packers have agreed to allow Favre to compete with Aaron Rodgers for the starting job and he won't necessarily be the backup this season. Trade talks with Favre have not advanced and coach Mike McCarthy is expected to come up with a plan that will split the practice repetitions with Rodgers.</p>

The Packers released this statement from president Mark Murphy:</p>

"Sixteen years after Brett Favre came to the Packers, he is returning for a seventeenth season. He has had a great career with our organization and although we built this year around the assumption that Brett meant what he said about retiring, Brett is coming back. We will welcome him back and turn this situation to our advantage.</p>

"Frankly, Brett's change of mind put us in a very difficult spot. We now will revise many actions and assumptions about our long-term future, all predicated on Brett's decision last March to retire. As a result of his decision, we invested considerably in a new and different future without Brett and we were obviously moving in that direction. That's why this wasn't easy. Having crossed the Rubicon once when Brett decided to retire, it's very difficult to reorient our plans and cross it again in the opposite direction - but we'll put this to our advantage.</p>

"Brett will be in camp tomorrow. Although there has been uncertainty regarding Brett's return, Ted Thompson and Coach McCarthy had previously discussed this and have had a plan in place. Coach McCarthy will talk to the team and the quarterbacks about the plan moving forward, and after he has done that we will share it publicly.</p>

"No matter what, I look forward to another successful season for the Packers and our fans. This has been a tough situation, but the Packers will make the most of it."</p>

McCarthy is expected to address the quaerterback situation after the scrimmage tonight.

......they really don't want Favre back while at the same time trying to say they do welcome him back.

And I don't believe for a second that Favre will really get a fair shake at the starting job. They may let him compete, but I believe in the end that they'll try to claim Rodgers was better and that he wins the starting job. Either that or Favre will in fact get traded after all.

The situation is just too uncomfortable. If I were them I'd definitely want to trade Favre and move on.
