Will there be one less non conference weekend or will teams just wait longer to play each other in SEC play?

Also what will this do to tournament? Drop number back to top 8 (or top 6 with 2 play in games with middle 4) or still do 12 with bottom 4 being left out?

Next year the SEC tourney is all sixteen teams, single elimination.........

I never understood why they left teams out of the SEC tournament in baseball. They let them in for basketball. Were they worried a team would get hot and win the tournament that was not that good during the season? If they were worried about pitching, they could have made it single elimination.

Regular season will still be 30 SEC games. I think everyone just has 2 permanents and everyone else is a rotating opponent. Will be shocked if our permanents aren’t Ole Miss and LSU.

I think it just used to be more of a prestige thing and less of a “get as many bids as possible” thing. That changed in 2011 when LSU got left out of the NCAAT and threw a fit because the committee said it was because they missed Hoover. It’s been double digit teams in Hoover ever since.

So will the new tournament format mean the first round is on Thursday?

I don't like a March Madness bracket for baseball.

I would have changed nothing. 4 teams left out instead of 2.

12 of 16 making the tourney is more mathematically pleasing than 12 of 14 anyway.

But teams still got left out.

I’d like to them take a weekend at middle of season and put 4 teams (preferably those not on each other schedules) and play in a mini regional tournament.

Host sights goes to teams with best sec records from the previous week (out of three other teams in your mini tournament, or by luck of draw if records are tied.

Fridays games are single elimination and 2 losers go home. Winners on Friday play best of 3 series with double header on Saturday with 3rd game on Sunday if necessary.

Think it will start on Wednesday. But Top 4 seeds supposedly get a double bye until Friday.
With 16 teams, it'll have to be something additional to make the numbers work. You could do Top 4 double bye and 5-8 single bye. 9-16 would then play Wednesday.

Slightly off topic but I can’t wait to see how Texas and Oklahoma like our SEC Alabama home bred football officials. They are going to lose their minds.
