I mean, we played about the softest non conference schedule I’ve ever seen. It was really, really bad. The only good team we played we lost to. It was pathetic how bad the non conference schedule was
I just turned the game on. We have never played well in Kentucky... ever. We always laid an egg in Kentucky even if we had the better team.
Sam Purcell is a great guy, good family man, great recruiter, but not a great coach.
I was thinking the same thing. Not very athletic and seem extremely slow all around.

I kinda thought we would get exposed some when SEC play started but tonight was simply a good opponent playing (read, shooting 3's) GREAT. School record great. Hell, I was worried about turnovers and we committed 10.

Left out of this is we led nearly the entire game on their court and they (GT) are now 15-0. We beat Utah, after beating the absolute she ite out of them for 3 quarters before a mad 4th quarter comeback. Utah is now 11-2 with a 10 point win over Notre Dame. If they're not good, wtf is good??
If I want to get "shat all over Mississippi State world", I can just stay in the non SPS world. If you're going to shat on our teams, at least know wtf you're talking about or just swallow the puke in your mouth before it comes through your keyboard.

Purcell can recruit usually, but his in-game coaching is weak.

Kentucky is a really good team and I don’t think we’re going to beat a lot of really good teams under Purcell. Purcell is going to put together a great roster with a good, not great season every year.
Most seasons, barring collapse, we’re going to lose 1 or 2 non-con games, go about .500 in conference play, rely on the strength of the league to get us an 8-12 seed, then lose in one of the first two rounds of the tournament.

I think it’s funny how many people on this board were saying it was a mistake to not hire Johnnie Harris or Joni Taylor. Meanwhile, they’re out here losing to Norfolk State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Since I expressed my opinion about our coach, I guess I have joined The League of Dumbass Bitches. This is a new height I have achieved. I think I will hire a designer and make t-shirts to sell to the rest of us in the LDB. I guess ole Vic spoiled us in the LDB. We used to love going to the other guys house and kicking their azs.

To be fair, Vic had his problems with Kentucky too, especially while Makayla Epps was there. I don't think he actually beat them until she graduated.

We will start 0-6 in SEC. 1-5 at best. Will finish 6-12 in league, at best.
I think we have talent. I think we have another issue and that's motivation and playing hard consistently.
I imagine - just seeing his public persona - that he's a "player's coach"... meaning, the players love him as a friend and he loves them right back. They probably hug a lot in the locker room and after practice. Great for recruiting, preseason hype, and tik tok videos. Not so great when it comes to motivating or correcting or demanding they play f'ing defense. Good coaches get on players' asses when needed. I don't see Sam ever doing that.
Vic wasn’t a players coach, But he could get the best out of them. Vic was the “bad” guy and Johnnie Harris was the “good” guy or gal. Purcell was the “good” guy when he was an assistant. He needs to find him a bad guy or gal.
We could very well start 1-5 in league and still find a way to finish .500 since we open with 5 of 6 games against Top 20 caliber teams.
Going to be hard to finish 6-12 with a 16 game SEC schedule.
