Blame the lack of money in NIL to get players. I hear some already saying how far behind they are in NIL funds. Which will have a direct impact on that schools.

There may not be a coach at this point (put its coming). However, it has been discussed that compared to other schools Carolina is way behind in funding NIL. Bottom line, if there is not enough money to fund these kids they will take their ball and play somewhere else. If a school doesn't have the NIL funding they will be stuck with 2 and maybe 3 stars which will equal L's and lots of them. This could and will happen to the Saban's of the world. If you have listen to some of these coaches they talk about NIL DEALS because they know how important it is to their career. PLAYERS make coaches.

Anybody who is deeply concerned about our lack of NIL money need only to write a check to help solve the problem. Personally. I'm not worried enough to do that.

Has anybody heard yet if Saban, Dabo, Jimbo or any other coaches with salaries in the $10m range have written 7-figure checks to some of these NIL collectives? When that starts happening, I guess we'll know if they think it's important or not.

I will be saving for my grandkids college since they need my help over paying money so a kid whose college tuition, room & board, books and fees are already paid can live lavishly while working on his pro career. Forgive me if my heart doesn’t care enough to give to that.

I'd rather shut the football program down than get caught up in bidding wars for recruits. Fans give enough money as it is.
Yep, it is all chaos and so very distracting to the game. As I and many others stated way back, the talk between fans will now be all focused on how much $$ some kid is making, or not making, how do we get more money to pay these players, how much is this guy or that guy worth, that 15 players hit the portal, on and on. In other words, NIL and the transfer portal have taken the "Americana" out of college sports and it will never return. As if politics getting into college athletics a few years back wasn't bad enough, we now have to deal with watching players demand more money as the bidding wars open up. It sickens me to see it happen but that's where we are. I prefer to talk about x's and o's, player abilities, coach's bad calls, how next year is gonna be our year, and who's gonna win the next game; not NIL $$, transfer portal and how kids no longer play because they love their school or even because they hope to get a chance in the NFL. Sorry, I'm old school and not ashamed of that, the younger generations are more focused on $$ anyway and they will continue supporting it in whatever form it evolves into. Or will they? There are no better or more devout fans than the guys and girls that have been pulling for their alma mater or their favorite college team for 20, 30, 40, or more years, we love USC. But if we are going to basically have semi-pro teams with players that don't really care about which school they play for, why should we support the team, and why should the teams even be aligned to a college? Just have a semi-pro league, like minor league baseball. They are generally supported financially by local or bigger businesses in the larger towns and even get the fields named after them. So maybe WB becomes Fidelity Field and the team name becomes the Commanders. The Columbia Commanders it is. Would it work? NO, because despite many fans claiming players deserve to get big $$ and that players should be able to transfer 5 times, in the end, for most college fans, it is about THE LOVE OF THE SCHOOL!! Most fans show up and support the Gamecocks because they went to USC, their family has a long tradition pulling for USC, they grew up a Gamecock fan, somebody they grew up with played for the Gamecocks, on and on, and their blood runs garnet. When the players don't share this view, it just isn't the same. Sorry for this old-schooler's long rant :)

Yep, and for those that claim athletes deserve to get paid, that they deserve something, I read recently that the average amount of "free" stuff, the stuff you named, is around $150 K. When did $150K become "nothing"? And they also get an additional $1000 +/- a month for "living and entertainment" expenses. Not sure I would have ever graduated if I was getting $1000 a month to party on when I was 18.

I suspect the top programs in the past few years, Bama, UGA, and possibly Clemson will find it easier to raise NIL money since they have been successful for a while. But it definitely could happen, some states have a lot of big businesses, but it could also come from out of state alumni.

I used to enjoy listening to 680 The Fan in Atlanta back in the day. Way back. Then too much of the talk centered on $$$ and how much a pro player was getting paid and which athlete was p o'ed cause he wasn't the highest paid at his position. Now it's creeping down into the high school kids for the love of pete. Somebody/Something has to take hold and get a grip on this maddness. But Who??? It's way, way out of contril. Money and greed. The pendulum has swung way too far.

Oregon should be able to sign at least 12-15 5 star players each year and win the NC every year with Phil Knight's money.
Oregon, Texas, TAMU, Stanford, etc..

The schools it will hurt would primarily be in poorer, smaller states that don't have a plethora of wealthy alumni....and may include teams like Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, FSU, Mississippi schools, etc. Some may be able to keep it up for a while...but how long?
