Tomlin pretty much mailed it in with that terrible 4th down attempt. Wow. For that, he gets my vote.

What are “Cowher’s players”? Cowher didn’t recruit them, it’s not college.
He drafted them, he built the team. Tomlin drafts guys like Anthony McFarland and bums like that. Cowher drafted, Ben, Holmes, Ward, etc. The guys he won the super bowl with.

Coach doesn’t draft players on his own, GM and owner have primary responsibility.
Except for last year picks have been good. Watt, Edmunds, Bush, Fitzpatrick.

Edmunds and bush suck. Fitzpatrick was a trade, a bad one at that. And the head coach has input into the players being drafted. A lot of input. Also, TJ Watt does nothing for this team. Should have tagged him.

GM is primary, owner secondary. True in Cowher’s day, still true.

You are generalizing a complex process that is different for each team to begin with. That is not how it works with the Steelers.
LOL. You are faking it. Everybody knows GM Colbert has been responsible since 2000 and he drafted Big Ben.

I bet you think Tomlin doesn’t pick his assistants. Who drafted McFarland and Brooks Jr? Who signed all the busts from Newport News? Tomlin has the a significant say on who is draft and who is on the roster. Just like Cowher.

So Ben gets credit when Steelers win.....Tomlin gets blame when Steelers lose.....got it.
Never said that Tomlin doesn't get credit for those wins, but he wouldn't be close to his record if Ben wasn't his QB. When/If ben retires this year, Tomlin's record will tank. He has no control of the team. Also his first Super Bowl was with Cowher's players.

As for the guy who asked if Belichek is due to Brady, yes he is. I hate both, but Brady made Belichek (that and all of the cheating by NE).

The current Steelers problems are primarily Jimmy’s and Joe’s (not X’s & O’s). They had 2 rookies (one of which at LT) and a 2nd year guy starting on the OL for large chunks of the season…add an aging QB who is a shell of his old self, they were bound to take their lumps this year. But, if those young OL develop and get a full off-season in a pro weight room and they add another OL in FA (they have a ton of money to spend), then with their young stud RB and TE they can play a traditional grinding system until they ultimately find their next franchise QB. That’s the optimist’s stance for the short term.

That said, Tomlin - like Franklin - is good for at least one head-scratching call from the sidelines per game, even when his roster is more talented. I like both, but as in anything else, there always comes a time to move on…and in the Steelers case, start from scratch.

If you had any credibility on this board before, you just lost it all with this one sentence. Congrats.
He doesn’t and it is a bad contract for a team that needs a rebuild. He disappears in big games. All he wants to do is rush the passer. Had 0 sacks yesterday, 0 against Vikings, and 0 against the bengals. And he sat out for 3 quarters in their playoff game. 0 sacks again.

I think there is a definite whiff of bigotry in this thread.
Really? How does commentary on bad coaching translate to bigotry my friend? I sense a "definite whiff" of hypocrisy. By the way the OC, Canada, and the DC, Butler, are also open to criticism. Both are not going a good job.

Everything happens in cycles. I feel bad for the young fans. I'm old, so I have seen the great Steeler's teams of the 70s and the great PSU teams with Joe as head coach. So I feel fortunate.
Me too, but I’d like to be a young PSU/Steeler fan again.
