Worst call of all time?

This was ruled a TD in the GA State Championship. There’s another shot online showing the view straight down the goal line . It’s not even remotely close to being questionable. He’s a full yard short.

Not to steal the original post but I watched the game that followed for the state championship at the highest level AAAAAAA. Mill Creek vs. Carrollton. I had been reading about this sensational frosh qb from Carrollton. JuJu Lewis. Boy. Did he put on a show. Looks like a middle schooler but what an arm and accuracy. Mill Creek(Gwinnett County school) won the game but this frosh qb already has recruiters crawling all over him and it's easy to see why.

No. Easy call without a review! Incredible any line judge could call that a TD!

Horrible call. It would’ve been 4th down. I’ve seen calls as bad or worse, but there was a lot on the line there. How can anyone signal TD without seeing the ball cross the line? If it didn’t how could someone signal it did? At some point referees have to be held accountable. Not necessarily at the high school level, but in colleges pro football…they have to start getting fined and suspended. I’d like to see them paid based on how they grade each week.

It’s possible they score on the next play. So I’m not going to go as far to say the team got robbed. Honestly, this call taints the game so I feel bad for the winning team too. They could’ve outright won without a doubt on the next. They were robbed of that opportunity to win without controversy.

As coach I'd be throwing gatorade buckets on the field, bikes, fans, towels, helmets, I'd be in every face of every official....

Yes, I'd get fired but I'd get enough social media attention to make sure that ref was fired right along with me...

I don’t even see how you bring yourself to celebrate if you’re the team that was awarded the TD.

I don’t really follow high school ball, but is there no opportunity for other officials to corrected the TD call? They do it in college all the time. One of the refs will make a call, but then they confer and then they make a different call.

Surely one official asked the one who called the TD, are you sure about this?

Sounds like you’re about to see Beamer hiring Loggains. I would put that call right up there.
Why don't we wait and see how it turns out before making judgements. Beamer has met expectations with 6 wins in year 1 and 8 wins in year 2 with upsets over 2 top 10 teams and a Gator bowl invite and you are treating him like the village idiot. Like he couldn't find his way out of a rain storm. He has a right to assemble his staff and bear the consequences if it doesn't work. But in the meantime let's see what happens before imploding like some are posting.

Beats me. What I can’t figure is that on obviously all the officials had to see the ball at the yard line once the play was over. Yet nothing was done to reverse the call. It’s not like he was close to the goal pole and it has hard to tell if he’d broken the plane. He wasn’t remotely close and the ball wasn’t remotely close after the play was over.

I worked as line judge and back judge for about 8 years in the SCHSL. This makes me cringe so bad. There is a second angle on Twitter that shows it from the side. I’m pretty sure the line judge thought someone else had the ball. Of course, he still shouldn’t call it without seeing the ball.

But here’s my problem, and I hated this in officiating. We are taught mechanics - where to stand, who to watch, pre-snap counts, etc. But there is a glaring hole in mechanics for goal line plays that could be solved like out of bounds/catches in the back of the end zone. We were taught to check with the other officials for back of end zone/side line plays. But for end zone plays like this one, we were taught that only the two guys standing on the line can call it. And sure, most of the time they have the best view. But in a pile, who knows. You often can’t see anything. And it annoyed me that the umpire standing right there often had a better view and are taught BY MECHANICS not to interfere with the line judge call. I’m SURE the umpire saw this clearly but was scared to overrule. They could easily fix this by teaching collaboration on the hard to see plays.

And this is bad…but the Outback Bowl first down was worse because they even stop play for a freaking measurement. Sigh. But as the Ol Ball Coach said, but Clowney got the ball back so that was ok 😂

That’s the part I don’t get. No other official could say “ummm, that ball’s a yard short.”?

And I hope you will be first in line to admit you were wrong if this hire works out and the offense clicks. You seem to have taken a deep dive on labeling this hire a total bummer before there are any results to prove it. Not typical of you from what I have observed.

I would be the first, but it’s never happening. This guy won’t be here next year at this time.

The story I heard today is particularly disappointing. I heard big name donors are pist over this decision and Tanner had to step in over the weekend. That’s just great. The worst AD is trying to rescue our man child coach.
