Would a Gator Bowl win be bigger than Citrus?

I thought at least historically that Gator Bowl was equal or only slightly higher in esteem than the Citrus bowl. Thoughts? Right now our most esteemed bowl victory is a Citrus Bowl win, right?

I used to think the gator was a more desirable bowl and a step up from the tangerine/citrus bowl. But imo, the gator lost that when it became an acc tie in sometime in the early 90s... at least for me anyway. Very happy we got ND and not someone like NC St.

The Citrus Bowl is considered more “prestigious” the past 20 years or so due to the order they would choose teams from the SEC and Big Ten.

But I believe in this case, for us, it would be bigger. A lot of that has to do with the Notre Dame matchup. Another part is that we’ve won the Citrus Bowl twice. We’ve never won the Gator Bowl. The Gator should probably be a better bowl than it is considered but it does seemed to have gained a little more prestige since the playoff started.

Beating Purdue would be overlooked.
Beating Notre Dame will be remembered (even though they are always overrated).

Back many years ago, in my recollection the Gator Bowl was sort of fifth in terms of prestige after the Sugar, Rose, Orange and Cotton. Fiesta seemed to have come a bit later but was up there. I always remembered the Citrus as coming behind those. I don’t think it was really considered prestigious at all long ago.

The Gator Bowl has a smaller payout than the Citrus and RealQuest (old Outback Bowl).🏈

I think the Fiesta Bowl got its prestige when it became one of the 4 BCS Bowls. It probably has more to do with geography than the actual Bowl. The same factors hurt the Gator. Miami got the BCS Bowl, and the other Florida Bowls dropped about a notch. When the Peach was name as one of the 6 NYD games, they all fell another notch.

It’s all about spreading the big games out all over the place. The Gator is still a quality bowl…it just happened to be located in a bad spot geographically.

The Gator is, objectively, a lesser bowl than the Citrus and Outback for the last 20 years or so based on payout and order of selection ($5.3m vs $6.4m and $8.2m, respectively). Having said that, I think everybody would rather play in a Florida bowl game against Notre Dame than Illinois or Purdue. Plus, it's a bowl we haven't been to in a long time and a pretty easy trip for most SC fans to make. I expect the Gator Bowl will have one of the largest crowds for a non NY6 bowl this year.

Is that true, we've never won a Sugar, Rose, Orange or Cotton bowl? Have we been that bad? Good grief.

That old A & M school in the upstate would be a great role model for us, imo! That school also has a proud tradition of producing many officers who have fought in several wars, second only to Texas A & M and West Point. There's a reason it's called Memorial Stadium. You can dump on them all you want but we aren't even close to being equal to them on many fronts. That's just facts! We would kill to have the traditions and history of Clemson! Just being honest. Honest men would congratulate their accomplishments. Anybody agree? This is a test of honesty and integrity! One more thing: how many of you would kill to have Dabo as a coach???

The Gator Bowl was the first bowl USC ever played in wasn’t it. Wake Forest 1946 or something crazy like that? And the second was the Peach Bowl against Carlen and WVU? What was the third one. Am I half right?

I feel like in today's world, the name of the bowl is meaningless. It's all about the opponent!
